The National Weather Service in Grand Forks has issued a Winter Storm Warning for Crookston and the area from 3:00 pm today to 9:00 pm on Thursday. The watch includes West Polk, West Marshall, Wilkin, and Grand Forks Counties. It includes the cities of Crookston, East Grand Forks, Warren, Stephen, Argyle, Breckenridge, and Grand Forks.
Heavy snow is expected today with widespread blowing and drifting snow developing tonight. Total snow accumulation of 3 to 7 inches is expected with higher amounts possible. Wind gust as high as 35 mph are expected with wind chills as low as 40 below.
Travel could be difficult. Areas of blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute. The dangerously cold wind chills as low as 35 below zero could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 10 minutes.
A Winter Storm Warning for snow means severe winter weather conditions will make travel very hazardous or impossible. If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.
