A second Polk County resident has passed away after contracting COVID-19. Polk County Public Health Director Sarah Reese said the deceased individual was in their 30s while adding information is still limited at this time. “Today, Polk County Public Health, unfortunately, received notification of the death of an individual in their 30s,” said Reese. “We have very limited information. The only thing we know at this time is the individual was in their 30s, and we certainly extend our condolences to the family and friends of that individual.”
Reese said that because the information is limited at this time, she does not know if the individual had underlying conditions, adding that the Minnesota Department of Health will be contacting the next of kin. “The Minnesota Department of Health investigators will be reaching out to next of kin and will update the information should it become available,” said Reese. “At this time, there isn’t any other information because it is an open investigation.”
Reese said Public Health’s thoughts are with the family and friends of the deceased and encouraged continued diligence toward the safety guidelines for COVID-19. “We certainly are thinking about the family and friends of the loved one,” said Reese. “We encourage our community members to continue to be diligent with hand hygiene, social distancing, and staying close to home while still enjoying family and friends.”
Polk County has had 55 positive cases of COVID-19. More than 30 of those individuals who have tested positive have recovered and no longer needing isolation.
