The University of Minnesota Crookston Golden Eagle Volleyball team started slow and didn’t recover in a 3-0 (25-13, 25-19, 25-19) loss to the Winona State Warriors in a Northern Sun Conference match played in Winona.
Winona State jumped out to a 6-1 lead to start the match and they cruised the rest of the way for a 25-13 win and a 1-0 lead in the match.
In the second set, UMC jumped out to a 3-1 lead while taking advantage of three Winona State errors. Winona State answered with an 8-2 run to take a 9-5 lead. The Golden Eagles battled back to get within a 13-12 deficit before Winona State went on a 4-0 run to open up a five point lead and they held on the rest of the way for a 25-19 victory for a 2-0 lead.
In the third set, the teams were tied at 1, 2, 3, 5, 10, 11, 13, and 15 when Winona State built an 18-15 lead. UMC battled back to get within a 19-18 deficit, but Winona State dominated the end of the set and went on a 6-1 run behind five kills and a service ace to win the set 25-19 and win the match 3-0.
UMC drops to 4-19 overall and 2-13 in the NSIC and they will travel to Upper Iowa on Saturday. Winona State improves to 10-13 overall and 7-8 in the NSIC.
