The Crookston Pirate Baseball team took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning, only to have the Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton Rebels scored the next 23 runs and cruised to a 23-2 victory in five innings in a Section 8AA game played in Glyndon.
FIRST INNING-
Crookston’s Dexter Janek reached on an error. After a strikeout, Gavyn Hlucny singled before a run scored on an Isaiah Donarski groundout.
Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton answered in a big way in the bottom of the inning. After a walk, Deutsch hit a home run for a 2-1 lead. The next two batters walked, and a single loaded the bases. The next batter hit an infield fly, and a walk scored a run. Another single scored two runs. An error allowed two more runs to score for a 7-1 lead. After a walk and a pop-out, the Rebels doubled to score two runs for a 9-1 lead.
SECOND INNING-
Crookston was retired in 1-2-3 fashion.
DGF kept the offense rolling with a one-out single, a walk, and a single to score two runs. After an error and two walks, another run scored for a 12-1 lead. The next batter, Baumgartner hit a grand slam for a 16-1 lead. The next batter doubled, and the next was hit by a pitch. After the second out of the inning, the next two batters walked to score a run for a 17-1 lead. The next batter singled for a 19-1 lead.
THIRD INNING –
Crookston’s Greyson Ecker was hit by a pitch with two outs before the next batter struck out.
DGF kept it going with a double and, after two outs, a single knocked in a run for a 20-1 lead.
FOURTH INNING-
Crookston was retired in 1-2-3 fashion with a strikeout and two groundouts.
DGF added another run in the fourth with a single and a double for a 21-1 lead. After an out, the next batter was hit by a pitch, followed by a single and an error allowed two more runs to score for a 23-1 lead.
FIFTH INNING-
Crookston needed to score 13 runs to keep the game going. Nolan Cassavant started the inning with a double. After two outs Davin Janek singled to score a run to get within a 23-2 deficit. The next batter struck out and the game was over with DGF winning 23-2.
Crookston drops to 5-9 on the year and will take on Hawley on Friday. DGF improves to 11-7 on the year.
