This week’s Athletes of the Week are the Crookston Pirate Wrestling managers Emily Bowman, Carly Brown, and Carley Knutson. Crookston Pirate wrestling coach Wes Hanson has been nothing but pleased with this group of managers, and he believes they are a huge reason why things run as smoothly as they do. “This group of managers has high wrestling IQ as they all have older brothers who excelled in our program. Their years of experience, make things go very smoothly. Typically when I ask them to do something they have already completed it. I can’t thank them enough for all their help and dedication,” said Pirates coach Wes Hanson. “They have spent countless hours recording matches, keeping stats, and helping to make sure our events and practices are functioning well. They are always willing to help and bring positive attitudes.”
Emily Bowman is a sophomore who has been a manager for the wrestling team for the past three years. She also plays softball and volleyball for the Pirates. While just a sophomore, Bowman already knows she would love to play softball after graduation if the opportunity presents itself.
Carly Brown is a senior and not only managed the wrestling team but was also a manager for the volleyball team this past fall. She was a manager for a total of four years with the wrestling team. Brown is looking to attend Minnesota State University of Moorhead for Social Work.
Carley Knutson is also just a sophomore and has managed for three years just like Bowman. When she is not helping the wrestling team in the winter, she runs track in the spring and also plays volleyball for the Pirates in the fall. Graduation is still two years away but Knutson says she would like to attend a college close to home and study to become an OBGYN.
