The Crookston Girls tennis team will be leading a tennis camp at the Crookston High School tennis courts. This will take place today and August 23 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. This camp is for 2nd-5th grade boys and girls ONLY. Registration is $20.

Crookston Home Delivered meals will be provided by Riverview Auxiliary and Employees through August 25.

The North Country Food Bank is holding a produce distribution today from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm in the Crookston High School parking lot. Produce totes will be placed in the parking lot for people to take whatever they can use. Bring your own bags to pack your produce.

The Crookston Chamber of Commerce will have its Crookston Chamber End of Summer Golf Scramble! Gather your team of five golfers and hit the course for some golf, games, prizes, and fun. This will be $80 per individual or $400 per team. Event and hole sponsorships will be $100 per sponsorship. The tournament will take place on Tuesday, August 29. Registration will be at 9:00 am, with a shotgun start at 10:00 am. The tournament will be 18 holes. You can drop off the registration form (TBD) at the Chamber office or register by calling Erin LaPlante at 218-289-1867.

The Golden Link Senior Center will have Crafter’s Corner today from 8:30 am to 11:30 am, followed by a Lions Club meeting and lunch at 12:00 pm.

The Golden Link Senior Center will have Sit, stand, and dance class on this afternoon at 2:00 pm. 

The Crookston Eagles Club will have $8 burger baskets this evening from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm.

The Golden Link Senior Center will be having a speaker/speakers on Tuesday, August 22, at 10:00 am in the community room from Riverview Health Care in Crookston. The speakers are Maddie Engelstad ( Occupational Therapist ) and Brittni Johnson ( Physical Therapist and Wound Care Services). Their presentation will be: Maintaining Mobility and Independence through Exercise and Activities. Followed by pinochle/recycled cards at 1:00 pm and SAIL at 2:30 pm.

The Agassiz Environmental Learning Center will hold three events for families on Tuesday, August 22.  At 10:00 a.m., families with children ages 3-7 are invited to the Nature Sprouts; Mushroom Fan Club. Spend approximately one hour exploring fascinating fungi through hands-on nature activities, inspiring little kids to discover the FUN in fungi. At 1:00-3:00 pm, everyone is welcome to join Nature Wanders to enjoy making wild fruit into delicious jam. Discover how to identify the variety of fruit that grows naturally in our region. Nature Explorers invites youth ages 8-12 and their families for wilderness camping from 4:00-5:30 pm.

The Crookston Public Library is inviting readers to join its Reading by the Red book club, which invites adults of all ages to meet in the library’s beautiful River Room to discuss a variety of widely-read books. The selected title for August will be “French Braid” by Anne Tyler, with a discussion to be held Tuesday, August 22 at 6:30 p.m. Anne Tyler, a master at writing about the everyday and family dynamics, tells the story of the Garrett family from the 1950’s up to the pandemic present.  French Braid is available in regular and large print at the library, as well as in Ebook.

The Crookston Eagles Club will have darts starting at 7:00 on Tuesday, August 22.

The Golden Link Senior Center will have Men’s Cards starting at 8:00 am on Wednesday, August 23, followed by Cribbage at 10:00 am.

The Fisher American Legion will have Wednesday Night Burger Night on Wednesday, August 23.

The Golden Link Senior Center will have foot care from 8:30 am to 12:00 pm on Thursday, August 24, followed by SAIL at 2:30 pm.

The Wesley United Methodist Church will have Summer Salad Lunches on August 24, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. They offer a variety of salads, homemade desserts, and beverages. Dine-in or take-out is available for $12.00 per meal.

The Golden Link Senior Center will have Friday Morning Rolls, on Friday, August 25, from 8:30 am to 10:00 am.

The Crookston Eagles Club will have Bar Bingo on Friday, August 25, starting at 6:30. This is a $500 must-go jackpot.

The Crookston Eagles Club will have Bar Bingo on Saturday, August 26, starting at 2:00 pm. This is a $400 must-go jackpot.

AFRAN’s Chautauqua and French-Canadian/Metis Festival will be held Saturday and Sunday, August 26 and 27, at the Old Crossing Treaty Park in Huot, Minnesota. There will be music, stories, food, games, and demonstrations. Free will donation. Funding in part by the Minnesota Arts and Cultural  Heritage Fund.

CONTINUING ANNOUNCEMENTS

The Crookston Squadron Civil Air Patrol meets every Sunday at 2:00 p.m. Call 218-281-3954 for more information.

Twig and Branch Collection will be held on the second and fourth Mondays from June through October. Place the materials on your curbside. Branches must be cut into four-foot lengths and bundled by the crew to take them away. Annuities or tree trunks not cut to this length and bundled will be left for the owner to haul away. Twigs may be in boxes or bags. Individuals removing their diseased elm trees should call City Hall to schedule a pickup. Please note that leaves, grass, and other compostable material must be in the clear City of Crookston bags and will be collected on your regular garbage collection day.

The Crookston Care and Share are now accepting donations of Women’s, Men’s, and children’s clothing, toiletries, and other everyday items. Donations may be dropped off at the Care and Share Center at 220 East Third Street.

The Crookston Public Library’s Books & Brews Book Club meet on the fourth Tuesday of every other month at 6:30 pm at Drafts Sports Bar and Grill. They will discuss books and enjoy beverages. Appetizers are provided by the Friends of the Crookston Public Library; participants are responsible for the cost of thein food and drinks. All are welcome.

The Crookston Public Library’s Reading by the Red Book Club meets on the fourth Tuesday of every other month at 6:30 pm. They will discuss books and enjoy beverages.

The Crookston Friends of the Library meet on the third Monday of each month at 7:00 pm.

The Crookston Library Board meets on the first Wednesday of each month at 5:15 pm.

The Cove Youth Center in Crookston is open Monday through Friday from 4:00 pm to 6:30 pm. Students and parents should call ahead to check the availability of the youth center at 218-470-0149.
