The Crookston Public Library will have Storytime today, from 10:30 to 11:00 a.m.

Crookston Girls Hockey will have a Brat and Corn Fundraiser in the Parking Lot of B&E Meats today, from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. They will be serving fresh, locally grown corn on the cob donated by John Seaver and delicious brats made at B&E Meats and donated by Brent Epema.

The Wesley United Methodist Church is having a Summer Salad Lunch today, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The lunches will have a variety of salads, homemade desserts, and beverages. Diners are welcome to dine in or take out for $12.

PoP and PoP+ at the Farmers’ Market will be tonight, from 4:00 to 6:30 p.m. Come and sign-up for free vouchers that may be used to purchase fresh produce from any of their Market Producers. This is made possible by generous donations from local sponsors Riverview Health, Anytime Fitness, Christian Brothers Ford, Crookston Valley Co-op, AgCountry Farm Credit Services, and Irishman’s Shanty in partnership with the Crookston Farmers’ Market, University of Minnesota Extension, Polk County Public Health, and Statewide Health Improvement Partnership (SHIP).

The Crookston Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception will have a meeting for the Harvest Festival tonight, at 5:15 p.m.

The Crookston Eagles will have Bar BINGO tonight, at 6:30 p.m., the kitchen will not be open serving baskets.

The 40th annual Chautauqua and French-Canadian/Metis Festival will begin on Friday, August 26 at 6:30 p.m. and go to Sunday, August 28 at 4:30 p.m. at the Old Crossing and Treaty Park near Huot on County Road 11. There will be French Festival food, silent auctions, music, and stories throughout the entire weekend. The Climax-Shelly School District will be accepting donations of gently used shoes or clothing for the Climax Shelly Back to School Night on Tuesday, August 30, to have a variety of shoes and clothing available for anyone who need them.

The Golden Link Senior Center will hold an educational class with two physical therapists about fall prevention and adjusting walkers and wheelchairs on Tuesday, August 30, at 10:00 a.m. Golden Link will also be offering free walkers and a variety of canes for the workshop. No reservations are required for this workshop.

The Highland School Supply Drive which helps students start school with the supplies they need is accepting donations. Please drop off supplies at Meet-the-Teacher Nights on Wednesday, August 31 & Thursday, September 1 at Highland Elementary School before classes start on Tuesday, September 6. Collection boxes will be available just inside the main entry doors. All Lake Agassiz Regional Library (LARL) branches and LINK sites will be closed on Monday, September 5 in observance of Labor Day, with operation resuming Tuesday, September 6. This includes the Ada, Bagley, Climax, Crookston, Fertile, Fosston, Mahnomen, McIntosh, and Moorhead Public Libraries.

The Crookston Gun Club will celebrate “Back to School” on Thursday, September 8, using their kid’s school supply shopping lists as targets.

RiverView Health is offering a CPR class on Thursday, September 8, from 6:00 to 10:00 p.m. at the RiverView Home Care Building, 721 South Minnesota Street in Crookston. The cost is $50 for those needing certification and for those not needing certification the class is free. Our Savior’s Lutheran School will have a bake sale on Saturday, September 10, from 9:00 a.m. to noon as part of the King of Trails weekend.  The sale will be set up on the front sidewalk in front of S. Broadway. Come check out their delicious cookies, rolls, breads, and more!

The Benedictine Living Community in Crookston is holding a Golf Glow Ball Tournament Fundraiser on Saturday, September 10, at the Minakwa Golf Course. Registration is from 3:30 to 4:00 p.m. with the Shotgun Start of the first nine holes at 4:00 p.m. Supper will be served along with raffle drawings, and awards. The Red Lake County Committee on Aging invites all Red Lake County senior citizens (55 years and older) to their annual Fall Picnic. The picnic lunch will be held at the Oklee Hall on Tuesday, September 13 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. There is no charge. Youth must attend a mandatory orientation session that happens on Sunday, October 23, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

The Crookston Splash Pad at the Ray Ecklund Complex is open every day from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. through Labor Day.

The Crookston High School is opening its Weight Room for all High School students to use this summer. The Room will be open Monday through Friday for 9th-12th grade students from 6:00 to 7:15 a.m. or 7:30 to 8:45 a.m. and Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays for 7th and 8th-grade students from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m.

Twig and Branch Collection will be held on the second and fourth Mondays of each month, running from May through October. Place the materials on your curbside. Branches must be cut into four-foot lengths and bundled in order for the crews to take them away. Any branches or tree trunks not cut to this length and bundled will be left for the owner to haul away. Twigs may be in boxes or bags. Individuals removing their diseased elm trees should call City Hall to schedule a pickup.

Second booster doses of Pfizer or Moderna COVID-19 vaccines are now available at Altru Clinic in Crookston for people 50 and older and those 12 and older who are immunocompromised. The second booster dose must be administered at least four months after the first booster. Adults who received Johnson & Johnson (Janssen) for their primary vaccine and booster dose at least four months ago may now receive a second booster dose of Pfizer or Moderna only. The Crookston Public Library’s Books & Brews Book Club meet on the fourth Tuesday of every other month at 6:30 p.m. at Drafts Sports Bar and Grill. They will discuss books and enjoy beverages. Appetizers are provided by the Friends of the Crookston Public Library; participants are responsible for the cost of their own food and drinks. All are welcome.
