The Knights of Columbus Fish Fry will be held at the Cathedral Church on Friday nights from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Fish Fries will be held tonight, March 6, March 13, March 20, March 27 and April 3.  Adult meals are $13, a children’s meal is $8.00. Tonight, Golden Eagle Entertainment, will be hosting a Barnyard themed Kiddie Carnival. It will take place in Bede Ballroom, of the Sargeant Student Center at the University of Minnesota Crookston from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. This barnyard themed carnival is free and open to the public.

The Crookston Eagles will have bar bingo and meat raffles tonight at 6:00 p.m., $500 must go.  The kitchen will be open from 5:30 to 7:30 serving an $8 special of Deep-fried Shrimp & Fries. For $5 are Chicken Strips, Mac & Cheese Egg Rolls, Mini Corndogs, Jalapeno Poppers, Mozzarella Sticks, Onion Rings, Egg Rolls.  French Fries are $3. 

The Red Lake Falls American Legion Post 22 will host a fish fry tonight, serving begins at 6:00 p.m. 

Come out and cast off the winter doldrums with the Northern Jazz as they perform in the Gunderson Commons at Northland Community & Technical College in Thief River Falls tonight. The doors will open at 6:30 p.m. with the music beginning at 7:00 p.m. A $5 admission will be collected to support the Northwest Minnesota Community Bands, a local 501c3 that supports both the Northern Jazz and Northland Community Band. Light snacks and beverages are included for the audience to enjoy during the concert.

The tenth annual Radi Fun Run will be at the Fisher American Legion Saturday, February 29 at 8:00 a.m. 

Hunter’s Heroes teaches veterans, active duty military personnel, law enforcement, EMS, fire, corrections and dispatch staff how to gentle and train mustangs from the North Dakota Badlands.  Studies show working with equine has a therapeutic effect on people who work in, or have experience, situations of high stress or psychological trauma. Hunter’s Heroes will have a program available Saturday, February 29 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the UTOC Arena at UMC.  No previous horse experience is required and there is no fee. 

The Crookston Eagles will have bar bingo Saturday, February 29 at 3:30 p.m., $400 must go.  The Eagles Pin Night (Awards Night). There is a free meal of BBQ Ribs for all Aerie & Auxiliary members in good standing.  Guest dinners are $14. Reservations Required. 

The Warren Volunteer Fire Department will be hosting their 128th annual Firemen’s Ball and Smorgasbord Saturday, February 29 at the American Legion in Warren. They will be serving from a table full of great food from 5:00 to 7:30 p.m.  Dancing will follow from 8:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. Cost is Free will offering. Formal wear is not required. Everyone is welcome.

The 2019-20 Crookston High School spring sports PAC  (Parent-Athlete-Coach) meeting will be Monday, March 2 at 6:00 p.m. in the Crookston High School Auditorium. The Crookston Public Library will hold a Community Resource Fair on Tuesday, March 3 from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m.  Connect with beneficial resources in the Crookston area, meet with and learn more about various agencies that serve people, including those dedicated to community assistance, employment and training, physical and mental health, senior programs and more.  There is no admission and all are welcome. The free ECFE Unplug and Play for ages birth to kindergarten will be Tuesday, March 3 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Washington School gym. A variety of equipment will be available for children and their parents to enjoy and explore together. 

Author Chris Ingraham will share the story of his family’s big move from his new book “If You LIved Here You’d Be Home By Now” on Tuesday, March 3 at 6:00 p.m. at the Fertile Public Library.  Ingraham made headlines when he wrote a national article declaring Red Lake County the “worst place to live in America.” When the community challenged him to visit their community, he flew to Minnesota for a surprising visit, and will now share the story of how, impressed by the locals’ warmth, humor and hospitality, he and his family decided to relocate to the town he had thought the worst in America.

The Fisher Robotics Team will have a Fish Fry Fundraiser on Friday, March 13 at the American Legion in Fisher from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. The menu is Walleye or Jumbo Shrimp, Baked Potato or French Fries, and Colelaw for $12.  There will also be door prizes. All three Fisher Robotics teams competed in the state competition this season and both high school teams will compete in the National Competition in April, with one debuting the new drone program.  All proceeds benefit Fisher Robotics. 

Winter Kart Racing and Swap Meet will be held Saturday and Sunday, March 14 and 15 at the Red River Valley Winter Shows in Crookston. Doors open at 8:00 a.m. both days. Race time is 12:00 noon. There will be three sessions on Saturday and two on Sunday. Admission is $10. Concessions by Oak Pit Grill. The Swap Meet will be held throughout both days. Trails for Treatment will have a free will offering Musical Fundraiser 2:00 p.m. Sunday, March 15 at the Presbyterian Church in Red Lake Falls. Music and fellowship will feature music selections by Jennifer Wieland, Sherry Knott and audience participation. Coffee and bars will be served. This event is hosted by the retired Flaming Flamingos. Trails for Treatment is a grant program that offers financial assistance to patients receiving cancer treatments.

The Crookston Public Library’s ‘Families Read Every Day’ (FRED) program will be Tuesday, March 24 from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. and is designed to encourage families and other role models to read to their children on a daily basis.  Families are invited to bring the special children in their lives, ages two to five, to the library for a fun program including an enhanced storytime followed by a special activity. This is a 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten special event.

Trinity Lutheran Church in Crookston will have a Wednesday Lenten Supper and Service on Wednesday, March 25. Trinity’s National Youth Gathering Team will serve  supper in the Fellowship Hall from 5:30 to 6:15. The Wednesday Lenten Worship service will be at 6:30. 

RiverView Health Type 2 Diabetes Support Group  will meet Wednesday, March 25 from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m.  in Meeting Room 1 of RiverView Health, 323 S. Minnesota Street, Crookston. The topic will be Tai Chi and Eating for the Seasons with  guest speaker Christine Loff. The Type 2 meetings are free and open to anyone with Type 2 diabetes and their family members. ECFE Pop In and Play,  for ages birth to kindergarten entrance, will be March 28 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Washington School. Come play in the gym using equipment designed for young children. Class is free. 

The Crookston Gun Club will have their 39 Annual Crookston Family Fun Night and Awards Banquet Saturday, March 28 at the Crookston Eagles. Social at 5:00 p.m. and prime rib or walleye dinner at 6:30 p.m. Cost is $25 for adults and $20 for under 18 years. Ticket price includes a chance to win a firearm. There will be a Baby Sign and Early Literacy class for parents and caregivers of children ages birth to 2 years and 11 months on Tuesday, April 7, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Crookston Public Library. Participants will learn basic baby signs and literacy tips to develop language through reading books. This is a free, one time class, the deadline to register is Thursday, April 2. Riverview’s Childbirth Classes, a series of four 2 hour classes on four consecutive Tuesdays, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. will start on April 7. The Crookston Public Library will hold a program Tuesday, April 14 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. titled “Irena Sendler: Hero of WWII Polish Resistance.” Connie Hannesson, a former Crookston Elementary School teacher will give a free presentation about Polish resistance hero Irena Sendler, who is credited with saving the lives of more than 2,500 Jewish children living in the Warsaw Ghetto. By working with the Polish Resistance Movement she used a variety of methods to help children escape from being transported to the Treblinka death camp.  Hear this inspiring story in an appropriate presentation for all ages.

Feed My Starving Children will pack 404,000 meals April 17-19 in the Minnkota Powers Building in Grand Forks.  To do this the coordinating committee is hoping to raise $97,000. The Crookston High PATCH program offers after school homework help for 7-12th grade students Mondays through Thursdays from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. in the CHS Media Center.  The program is in need of additional volunteers to help the growing number of students needing homework support. Riverview Health’s monthly Type 2 Diabetes Support Group meets the fourth Wednesday of every month from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. at RiverView Health in Meeting Room 1.  The group is led by RiverView Dietitian Darcy Larson, RD, LD and Kelsey Billing, RN, BSN. JAM TIME, which stands for Jesus and Me, Together in Motion Every Day, is a new, non-denominational children’s ministry program to help kids dig into the Bible and grow their relationship with the Lord. The program will be Wednesday nights from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at Hope Church in Fertile, starting in October. All children, Pre-K through 6th grade, are invited to attend! Each night at JAM TIME, children will engage in a variety of small group and large group activities that reinforce a key Bible point and verse for the week.
