The United Way of Crookston’s Dine Out Week will be this week. Eat at your favorite Crookston restaurants, and part of your purchase will be donated to the United Way of Crookston.

The Crookston Home Delivered Meals will be delivered by Kiwanis 100’s and the Leo Club this week.

The Polk County Commissioners will have a regular meeting today at 8:00 a.m. in the Polk County Government Center.

The Crookston High School Drama Club will perform their One-Act Play #CENSORED at the One Act Play Subsections at Ada on Thursday, January 26.

The Crookston High School will have a Prom Baked Potato Bar Fundraiser on Thursday, January 26, from 4:30 to 8:00 p.m. in the Crookston High School Commons. There will be a free-will offering as well during the Girls’ Basketball Game against East Grand Forks.

A Taco Salad & Dessert Fundraiser for Kay Hegge will be held in the Cathedral School Dining Room on Thursday, January 26, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. The event is a meet, greet, and eat with a free-will donation basket available. The Crookston Eagles will have Bar BINGO on Thursday, January 26, at 6:30 p.m. The kitchen will be open serving baskets.

The Washington Elementary School will have a Winter Fun Day on Friday, January 27. Kindergarten students will go sledding at Schuster Park, while School Readiness students will enjoy the snow at Washington School. Classrooms will offer winter-themed activities, and the Washington PTO will provide hot chocolate.

The Crookston High School will take an Art Fair Trip to MSUM on Friday, January 27.

The Crookston Builders Club is collecting items that are needed for the Crookston Care & Share. Deodorant (men’s and women’s), Shower Gel/Body Wash, Shaving Cream, Loofah, and Diapers sizes 5 and 6 are being collected for people who need them in Crookston. Donations can be dropped off at the Crookston High School, the UMC Library, or at RBJs through Monday, January 30.

The East Polk County Crop Improvement Association’s annual meeting will be held on January 30 at the McIntosh Community Center in McIntosh. The morning session is for those seeking recertification of their Private Pesticide Applicator License from 9:00 a.m. until Noon. Lunch will be served at Noon. The Crookston Public School District would like to invite Crookston School District residents and stakeholders to an opportunity to hear more information on the School District’s upcoming referendum (election day is February 14, 2023).  Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions in an informal setting with a Coffee & Referendum Q & A with Crookston Interim Superintendent Dave Kuehn for the proposed Multiuse Outdoor Complex at the Irishman’s Shanty on Monday, January 30, at 10:00 a.m.

The North Star 4-H Club is hosting a Winter Gear Drive. Gloves, mittens, hats, socks, coats, and snowpants are being collected for youth in Polk County in need of warm winter gear. Donations can be dropped off at the Cathedral Church, Crookston Library, Our Saviors Church/School, Shear Sisters, and Titan Machinery through Tuesday, January 31. The 20th Annual Ice Buster Daze Fishing Derby will be on Saturday, February 11. The Derby will begin with a breakfast at the Masonic Lodge from 8:00 to 11:00 a.m., serving pancakes, waffles, sausage, coffee, juice, and milk and hold a free-will offering to local charities. The Derby will begin at the Red Lake River in Central Park from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. Registration will begin at 11:00 a.m. It will be $25 per hole, which includes a spaghetti supper at the Crookston Inn. The derby will end at the Crookston Inn with a chance at raffle prizes from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. Fish houses may be used. Ticket sales are limited to 300 and will be pre-sold at Crookston Hardware Hank. Absentee voting for the Crookston Public School’s upcoming referendum must be received no later than Monday, February 13, by 4:30 p.m. You can either vote Absentee in person at the District Office at the Crookston High School between 7:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday-Friday or by requesting and completing an Absentee Ballot Application form and return it to Marilyn Wahouske in the District Office before receiving a ballot by mail. Please allow up to seven business days to allow for delivery time when mailing. Any ballots arriving by mail will still be accepted on Election Day, provided they are postmarked prior to February 13. The Crookston Civic Music League will have the Minneapolis-based sextet Copper Street Brass perform in the Crookston High School Auditorium on Sunday, May 14, at 7:00 p.m. as a part of their 2022-23 Entertainment Series. Highland School is currently looking for donations of new or gently used winter gloves. Please drop off any donations at the Highland School Office if you are interested in donating.

The Crookston Care & Share is now accepting donations of Women’s, Men’s, and children’s coats and jackets, jeans, sweatshirts, long sleeve t-shirts, and winter gear, as well as toiletries and other common items. Donations may be dropped off at the Care and Share Center at 220 East Third Street.

Second booster doses of Pfizer or Moderna COVID-19 vaccines are now available at Altru Clinic in Crookston for people 50 and older and those 12 and older who are immunocompromised. The second booster dose must be administered at least four months after the first booster. Adults who received Johnson & Johnson (Janssen) for their primary vaccine and booster dose at least four months ago may now receive a second booster dose of Pfizer or Moderna only. The Crookston Public Library’s Books & Brews Book Club meet on the fourth Tuesday of every other month at 6:30 p.m. at Drafts Sports Bar and Grill. They will discuss books and enjoy beverages. Appetizers are provided by the Friends of the Crookston Public Library; participants are responsible for the cost of their own food and drinks. All are welcome. 

The Crookston Public Library’s Reading by the Red Book Club meets on the fourth Tuesday of every month at the library at 6:30 p.m. They will discuss books and enjoy beverages.

The Cove Youth Center in Crookston is open Monday through Friday from 4:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Students and parents should call ahead to check the availability of the youth center at 218-470-0149.
