The 38 Annual Chautaugua and French-Canadian/Metis Festival will be tonight at the Old Crossing and Treaty Park in Huot, located 9 miles southwest of Red Lake Falls or 7 miles northeast of Gentilly on County Road 11, follow the brown signs. Activities are free, donations are welcome. The festival opens at 11:00 a.m.. Double Trouble will perform at 1:00 p.m. Jan Smith, author and storyteller at 2:00 p.m. and Asham Stompers Metis Traditional Dancers at 3:30 p.m.. North 4th Street and 2nd Ave North are closed in Grand Forks through today from the Annual Grand Forks Downtown Street Fair. 

The Crookston Eagles will have bar bingo today at 3:30 p.m., $400 must go.  Dinner will be served from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. with choice of a stuffed pork chop for $11 or walleye for $15.  Takeout is available.

The Highland PTO is having a Highland School Supply Drive to help students start the year with the supplies they need and to keep the classrooms supplied all year long.  Supplies needed include: glue sticks, dry erase markers, pencils #2 or mechanical, scissors (student-sized), folders, heavy and 3-hole punched, and hand sanitizer or wipes.  Supplies can be dropped off at the Highland School Office Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., during Highland’s Meet-the-Teacher Nights Tuesday, August 27 and Wednesday, August 28 from 4:00 to 7:30 p.m.

Join RiverView Health’s Pharmacy staff for the free presentation, Diabetes Medication Management, on Thursday, August 29 at 3:00 p.m. The event is open to the public and will be presented at Oak Court, 110 Sargent Street, Crookston. The Villa St. Vincent/The Summit Foundation’s Glow Golf Tournament Fundraiser will be Saturday, September 7 at the Minakwa Golf Course. First 18 four person teams will be accepted. Registration is from 3:30 to 4:00 p.m. Shotgun start for the first 9 holes is at 4:00 p.m. Then supper and raffles and at sunset the 2nd 9 holes. Awards and raffle drawings to follow. Prizes awarded for the best decorated glow golf cart and best decorated glow golfer. The Crookston Civic Music League Entertainment Series will have their first concert at the Crookston High School Auditorium on Saturday, September 7 at 7:00 p.m., with the Annie Moses Band performing. Admission is by season ticket only. 

The Polk County Museum has a traveling exhibit from the League of Women Voters of Minnesota on display through Sunday, September 8. Hours are noon to 4:00 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday. 

The Polk County Historical Society Pioneer Day will be Sunday, September 8 from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Polk County Museum. The event opens with lunch being served, including pie and ice cream. There will be exhibits, tours, Sun Country and You Petting Zoo and spinning wheel and blacksmithing demonstrations throughout the day. There will be a display of “Hit and Miss” engines. The O’Neil Family Musicians will perform at 12:30 and Double the Trouble at 2:00 in the Centennial Building. The Woodpicks will perform at 3:00 p.m. in the Hafslo Church.  Point Paradise Stables will give free wagon rides from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. A free bus will run between the Polk County Historical Society Museum and the Sugarbeet Museum. This activity is made possible, in part, by an Art Legacy Grant from the Northwest Minnesota Arts Council.

Branch and twig collection will be held the second and fourth Mondays of each month running May through October.  Place the materials on your curbside. Branches must be cut into four-foot lengths and bundled in order for the crews to take them away.  Any branches or tree trunks not cut to this length and bundled will be left for the owner to haul away. Twigs may be in boxes or bags. Individuals removing their diseased elm trees should call City Hall to schedule pickup.It’s never too late to learn. The Crookston Public Library hosts baby bounce the second and fourth Tuesday of every month at 10:00 a.m. with songs, stories, flannel board, action poems for infants and toddlers plus their caregivers. 

The Crookston Public Library hosts WOW: What’s on Wednesday? the second Wednesday of each month at 2:00 p.m. for children ages 7-12 with crafts, activities and more. 

Every Thursday at 10:30 a.m., preschool children and their caregivers are invited to Storytime at the Crookston Public Library. Each week, they’ll explore a different theme through stories, songs, finger plays, flannel board stories, and a craft. No pre-registration is required, but they ask childcare providers and other groups to call ahead to ensure there will be adequate supplies at 281-4522.

The Polk County Historical Society Museum is open during the summer each Tuesday through Saturday from noon to 4:00 p.m. For more information call 218-281-1038.  Admission is free- donations accepted. 

Riverview Health’s monthly Type 2 Diabetes Support Group meets the fourth Wednesday of every month from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. at RiverView Health in Meeting Room 1.  The group is led by RiverView Dietitian Darcy Larson, RD, LD and Kelsey Billing, RN, BSN. The Type 2 meetings are open to anyone with Type 2 diabetes and their family members.  New members are always welcome.
