Tickets for the Miss Crookston Pageant are available at Montague’s Flower shop for $10.  The Miss Crookston Pageant will be Friday, August 16 at 7:00 p.m. at Crookston High School.

Summer Arts Safari and Crookston Community Theatre will put on the play Goldilocks and the Three Pig for children in grades 3-9. Practices will be Friday, August 16 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Performances will be Friday, August 16 at 5:30 p.m. and Saturday, August 17 at 11:00 a.m. at the UMC Kiehle Auditorium.  Admission for adults is $5 and children are $3.

The Little Miss and Junior Miss Crookston Pageant is tonight at 5:30, doors will open at 5:00 at Crookston High School. Tickets  can be purchased at the pre-sale price of $4 for adults, $3 for students at Montague’s Flower Shop.   Tickets can be purchased at the door for $5 for adults, $4 for students. Kids 5 and under are free.

Crookston VFW Post 1902 and the Auxiliary will meet tonight at 6:00 p.m. at the VFW.

The City of Crookston will be spraying for mosquitoes on Wednesday evening, starting at 6:00 p.m. The entire city will be sprayed, weather permitting.

Crookston Public Schools Back to School Registration Day is Thursday, August 15 from 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. in the Crookston High School commons.  Parents will be able to pick up schedules for their students, meet staff, pay for lunch and other fees and get information on Transportation and other miscellaneous items.

The Highland PTO is having a Highland School Supply Drive to help students start the year with the supplies they need and  to keep the classrooms supplied all year long. Supplies needed include: glue sticks, dry erase markers, pencils #2 or mechanical, scissors (student-sized), folders, heavy and 3-hole punched, and hand sanitizer or wipes.  Supplies can be dropped off at the Highland School Office Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., during Back-to-School Registration Day at Crookston High School on Thursday, August 15 from 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., and at Highland’s Meet-the-Teacher Nights Tuesday, August 27 and Wednesday, August 28 from 4:00 to 7:30 p.m. 

The Crookston Eagles will have customer appreciation Thursday, August 15 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. with $5 Taco in a bag.  There will be bar bingo at 7:00 p.m. 

The deadline to apply for the Mentored Youth Deer Hunt at Rydell National Wildlife Refuge for ages 12-15 is August 16.  Applications can be completed at any DNR license agent or online at www.mndnr.gov/buyalicense

The 24th Annual Crookston Classic Cruisers Classic Car Show “Run to the Park” will be August 16 and 17. Cost is $10 per entry. Friday at 2:00 p.m., it’s the Annual Merchants Main Street Car Show and then  Cruise Night at 7:00. Saturday, registration is from 8:00 a.m. to noon. Please use Carroll Street to access the north entrance to the Altru Clinic parking lot.  Altru Clinic would like to apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. 

Branch and twig collection will be held the second and fourth Mondays of each month running May through October.  Place the materials on your curbside. Branches must be cut into four-foot lengths and bundled in order for the crews to take them away.  Any branches or tree trunks not cut to this length and bundled will be left for the owner to haul away. Twigs may be in boxes or bags. Individuals removing their diseased elm trees should call City Hall to schedule pickup.It’s never too late to learn. Riverview Health’s monthly Type 2 Diabetes Support Group meets the fourth Wednesday of every month from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. at RiverView Health in Meeting Room 1.  The group is led by RiverView Dietitian Darcy Larson, RD, LD and Kelsey Billing, RN, BSN. The Type 2 meetings are open to anyone with Type 2 diabetes and their family members.  New members are always welcome.

Every Thursday at 10:30 a.m., preschool children and their caregivers are invited to Storytime at the Crookston Public Library. Each week, they’ll explore a different theme through stories, songs, finger plays, flannel board stories, and a craft. No pre-registration is required, but they ask childcare providers and other groups to call ahead to ensure there will be adequate supplies at 281-4522.

Hospice of the Red River Valley is offering a seasonal grief support group in Crookston the first and third Thursday of the month April through June from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Crookston Public Library. The grief support group is free and open to any adult 18 years and older who are grieving the loss of a loved one through death. There is no pre-registration required to attend the group.

The Crookston Public Library hosts an Adult Craft Group the second Saturday of each month at 1:00 p.m. free of charge and open to all people of all experience levels to bring their unfinished projects and join others for encouragement and inspiration.
