DGF USES BIG 2ND INNING TO BEAT PIRATE BASEBALL

The Crookston Pirate Baseball team gave up five runs in the second inning, and that proved to be the difference as the Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton Rebels beat Crookston 8-1 in a Section 8AA matchup.

FIRST INNING
Lucas Miller started the game with a single to left field and advanced to second base. The next two Pirate batters were retired before Gavyn Hucny singled to score a run for a 1-0 lead.
DGF’s leadoff batter reached on a walk before the next two batters were retired. The next batter singled to score a run, and the game was tied at 1-1. 

SECOND INNING
Nolan Cassavant reached on an error with one out before the next two batters flew out.
DGF started the bottom of the inning with a hit batter. After an out, the next Rebel batter was also hit by a pitch. After an out, the next batter walked, and the ensuing batter was hit by a pitch to score a run for a 2-1 lead. The next three Rebel batters singled to score four runs for a 6-1 lead. 

THIRD INNING
Crookston’s Miller led off the third inning, reaching on a hit by pitch. The next two batters were retired before Hlucny singled. The next batter hit into a fielder’s choice.
DGF’s leadoff batter was retired before a single, walk, and another hit batter to load the bases. A run scored on an error, and another run scored on yet another hit batter for an 8-1 lead.

FOURTH INNING
The first two Pirate batters grounded out before Carter Fee and Jay Reese were hit by pitches. The next batter struck out and the Crookston threat was over.
The Rebels started the bottom of the inning with a single, but the next batter hit into a double play, and the next batter popped out.

FIFTH INNING
The first two Pirate batters were retired before Hlucny, and Blake Melsa singled, but the next batter hit into a fielder’s choice, and the threat was over.
The first two DGF batters were retired before a single. The next batter flew out.

SIXTH INNING
Crookston was retired in 1-2-3 fashion with two strikeouts and one ground out.
DGF singled with one out before a strikeout and a walk. The next batter struck out and the Rebel threat was over.

SEVENTH INNING
Crookston was retired in 1-2-3 fashion with a line out, fly out, and strikeout and DGF won the game 8-1.

Crookston drops to 5-9 on the year and will host Fertile-Beltrami on Tuesday. DGF improves to 12-7 on the year.
