CROOKSTON BOYS TENNIS MASHES THE SPUDS

The Crookston Pirates Boys Tennis team dominated the Moorhead Spuds in a 6-1 victory on a rare sunny and somewhat warm day in Crookston. 

Crookston won the third doubles match with Sam Widseth and Tim Brule cruising to a 6-1, 6-1 victory to give the Pirates a 1-0 lead. That was a sign of things to come as Crookston won five of the next six matches.
Jack Garmen won his second singles match 6-2, 6-1. “I was happy to see Jack Garmen get a win,” said Pirate Coach Pat Janorschke. “He has had some tough matches and it was good to see him playing some good tennis today.” Isaac Thomforde continues his winning ways as he cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 victory at third doubles.   Reggie Winjum won the first set 6-0 and outlasted his opponent in the second set for a 7-5 victory.
In doubles, Crookston won all three starting with the third doubles match.  The closest match of the day was at first doubles with Nathan Kelly and Mason Owens winning a marathon match.  In the first set the Pirates won 6-3.  Moorhead came back to win the second set 7-5 forcing a third set.  Owens and Kelly were able to get some big points late and won the third set 10-8.  The Pirates completed the sweep of the doubles matches with the second doubles team of Austin Crawford and Kaleb Armstrong winning easily 6-0, 6-1 to complete the 6-1 team victory.  “I think everybody was happy to beat out in the nice warm weather,” said Pirate Coach Pat Janorschke. “Everyone played well and brought their A-game today and we will need that against some very good teams on Thursday.”

Crookston improves to 6-7 on the year and will head to Bemidji on Thursday for the Northwest Quad.
