CROOKSTON CARE AND SHARE IS HOLDING ITS ANNUAL WINTER CLOTHING DRIVE ALL THIS WEEK

The Crookston Care and Share’s Annual Winter Clothing Drive starts on Monday, September 12, at the Care and Share Center and will be open every day until Friday, September 16, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. All items in the drive are being given away free of charge, and the drive is open to everyone to come and find a winter item that they need.

The drive initially began as a Winter Coat Drive but has since expanded to include winter clothing items of all kinds, including jackets, gloves, mittens, hats, gloves, and boots. Anything winter clothing that someone needs for the winter can be found at the drive. “We’ve expanded a bit on what we’ve normally been doing. We’ve had to curtail things a bit in the past couple of years because of COVID, so we had limited items to give out and limited hours,” Care and Share Director Jane Freeman explained. “At this point, what we’re going to do, is open up every day from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, September 12 through the 16 of 2022.” During this week, people can come to the Center anytime during those hours. However, the Center is still taking some precautions against COVID. While you don’t have to wear a mask inside the building, the Center is asking people to enter from a door on the east side of the building that leads into their “Donation Room” so they can control the crowd that enters the Center.

Along with the clothes, the Center is also giving away household and kitchenware items donated by visitors. “As part of our giveaway, we do have some household items that will include things like plates, cups, mugs, silverware, kitchen utensils, kitchen items, and whatever may come in between now and then as well,” said Freeman. “A lot of these items go to the people that move into their own homes when they leave the Care & Share. But we do have some that are left here, and we are going to make those available to the public as well.” For those unable to make it to the Care & Share Center anytime this week or believe there’s another piece of winter clothing from it, the Center is accepting scheduled appointments for people to come into the Center to see anything they have left after this week.

The Care and Share Center would like to thank some generous donators that gave many items to the drive and helped make it as plentiful as it is. “With COVID being prevalent in the last couple of years, we weren’t able to use any help to get ready for our Winter Clothing Drive. This year we were able to open up some, and I want to give a huge shout-out to Leadership Crookston 2022, a program offered by the Chamber of Commerce and that group came in on the day that they visited the Care and Share and assisted mightily with hanging up items and making this available for the drive,” said Freeman. “The second group that came in and helped and did a great deal of work for us too was the Crookston High School Tennis Team. I do want to say thank you and that as things are opening up, we are available to utilize some of the volunteerism that is available to us in Crookston.”

The Crookston Care and Share Center’s Winter Clothing Drive begins on Monday, September 12, and will be open every day until Friday, September 16, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. All items are at no cost, and the event is open to everyone. If you’re unable to make it to the Center during that time, you can set up an appointment with them to come in the following week to get your items by calling 218-281-2644.
