CROOKSTON HIGH SCHOOL TO HOST A STUDENT JOB FAIR ON WEDNESDAY, MAY 15

The City of Crookston and the Crookston School District have come together to put on an event that will look to benefit upperclassmen and others at CHS. The event is a Student Job Fair, which will take place on Wednesday, May 15, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the CHS commons.

Crookston School District Randy Bergquist and City of Crookston Marketing Director Keenan Devier have worked together on this project to bring in local vendors and employers to promote their businesses to potential future employees. “We have businesses that are interested to set up shop,” said Superintendent Randy Bergquist, “And talk to kids about their business. Give kids some information about what looks good on a resume and the students’ future goals, and it’s an opportunity to showcase Crookston, the community, school district, and the city working together.”

There are already 18 businesses that have signed up as vendors for the job fair. The vendors include- Tri-Valley Crookston Head Start, McDonald’s, Crookston Inn & Convention Center, Villa St. Vincent, Crookston Fire Department, Eagles Wing Inc, Dee Manufacturing, Ace Hardware, Valley Plaines Equipment, Titan Machinery, Crookston Parks and Recreation, Ziegler, Riverview Health, Taco Johns, Happy Joes, Dominoes, REM Minnesota, and State Farm Andy Oman Agency.

“I’m so excited about how many businesses are willing to come out,” said Bergquist, “And to showcase what they offer our students, whether in high school or college. This is an opportunity for our kids to meet business owners in our community and for business owners to showcase exactly what they have to offer.”

Although a high school job fair typically targets students in grades 10-12, Bergquist explained that everybody is welcome to attend this fair. Adults, parents, and young children can show up and see what the event is about and receive information about local businesses.

The Student Job Fair will, most importantly, give students a chance to begin making connections, and the ability to communicate face-to-face with one another is a skill that’s been deteriorating worldwide for the last few years. “This is a great opportunity for students and others to get off their phones,” said Bergquist, “Instead of texting, using social media, talking face-to-face, and making eye contact with an adult, get that experience. When you interview, whether it’s a two to four-year college, job, or military, you’re going to have to look people in the face and say, ‘Yes, I’m a great person, and I have a great work ethic.’ So this is exciting for me from the standpoint of a student because hopefully, the student will gain some knowledge and experience by interacting with these individuals.”
