CROOKSTON LEGION BASEBALL FALLS TO WADENA IN SUB-STATE TOURNAMENT

Wadena Legion Post #171 had six extra-base hits as they beat the Crookston American Legion Nels T. Wold Post #20 Baseball team 6-2 in the first round of the Northwest Sub-State Legion Tournament in Fosston.

FIRST INNING
The first two Crookston batters were retried before Alex Longoria drew a walk. The next batter was retired.
Wadena began the inning with a lead-off double from Isaac Hamann, who reached third off of a passed ball. Connor Davis hit a sacrifice fly to score a run and give Wadena the early lead 1-0. Kobe Snyder singled and stole second before the next batter was retired. Tyson Barthel doubled to score a run and a pitch hit Brandon Wheeler before the next batter was retired, ending the inning with Wadena taking a 2-0 lead.

SECOND INNING
Crookston began the inning with a lead-off walk from Tanner Giese before the next batter grounded into a double play. The next Crookston batter was retired.
The first two Wadena batters were retired before Hamann doubled. Davis and Snyder drew walks before the next batter was retired, ending the threat.

THIRD INNING
Crookston’s first batter was retired before Lucas Miller drew a walk. The next batter lined into a double play, ending the half-inning.
The first Wadena batter was retired before Wheeler drew a walk. The next batter was retired before Connor Dutke doubled to score a run before he was caught on the base path to end the inning, with Wadena furthering their lead 3-0.

FOURTH INNING
Crookston began the inning with George Widman drawing a walk. The next two batters were retired before Giese singled. A pitch hit Jackson Demarais to load the bases before the next Crookston batter was retired, ending the threat.
The first Wadena batter was retired before Hamann doubled. Davis doubled to score a run and make it 4-0 Wadena. Snyder singled before the next batter was retired. Cooper Ness drew a walk before Wheeler singled to score two runs and give Wadena a 6-0 lead. The next batter was retired, ending the inning.

FIFTH INNING
The first Crookston batter was retired before Miller reached on an error. Blake Melsa and George Widman both singled to load the bases before the next two batters were retired, ending the threat.
Wadena’s first batter, Dutke, was hit by a pitch. The next three batters were retired.

SIXTH INNING
Giese reached on an error to begin the inning for Crookston before a pitch hit Demarais. Teagan Lubinski singled to load the bases before the next batter was retired. Miller drew a walk to score Crookston’s first run of the game. Blake Melsa reached on a fielder’s choice, which scored a run making it 6-2 Wadena. Widman was walked before the next batter was retired, ending any further threat.
Wadena began the inning with a single from Snyder before he was caught on the base path for the first out. A pitch hit Evan Lunde before the next batter was retired. A pitch hit Wheeler before the next batter was retired, ending the threat.

SEVEN INNING
Crookston was retired in 1-2-3 fashion, ending the game with a Wadena victory 6-2.

Crookston ends their season with a record of 17-11. Wadena improves to 13-4 and takes on the winner of Ottertail Central vs Roseau on Friday at 11:00 AM.
