Warroad uses a big fifth and sixth inning to defeat Crookston American Legion Post #20 Baseball by a score of 9-7 in the first round of the Northwest Sub-State Legion Baseball Tournament.
FIRST INNING
The first Warroad batter was retired before Ryan Chamernick singled. The next two batters were retired.
Crookston began with a lead-off single from Blake Melsa. The next two batters were retired before a pitch hit Tanner Giese. Ashton Larson singled to score a run and Crookston took the lead 1-0. The next batter was retired, ending the inning.
SECOND INNING
The first Warroad batter was retired before Jacob McFarlene was walked. The next batter was retired before Sam Hard singled. The next batter was retired to keep the game at 1-0 Crookston.
The first Crookston batter was retired before Parker Kelly singled. The next batter was retired before Blake Melsa reached on an error. George Widman singled to score a run, furthering Crookston’s lead to 2-0 before Melsa was caught on the base path for the final out of the inning.
THIRD INNING
Warroad’s first batter Kas Pietruszcwski reached on an error. The next batter was retired before Liam Grover reached on an error, which scored a run. The next batter was retired before a pitch hit Murray Marvin. The next Warroad batter was retired, ending the half-inning with Warroad cutting the deficit to 2-1.
Crookston began the inning with a Alex Longoria double. The next batter was retired before Larson singled. Jackson Demarais drew a walk before the next two batters were retired, ending the inning with Crookston still in front 2-1.
FOURTH INNING
The first Warroad batter was retired before Sam Hard reached on an error. The next batter was retired before Pietruszcwski singled and Hard reached home off of an error. Chamerick singled and the next batter was retired ending the half-inning with Warroad tying the game up 2-2.
The first two Crookston batters were retired before Widman drew a walk. The next batter was retired, ending the inning.
FIFTH INNING
Warroad began the inning with Brock Thompson reaching on an error. The next two batters were retired before Kanon Huffman drew a walk and a pitch hit Sam Hard to load the bases. Ben Norris hit a grand slam to give Warroad a 6-2 lead. Pietruszcwski hit a single and the next batter was retired.
Crookston was retired in 1-2-3 fashion.
SIXTH INNING
The first Warroad batter was retired before Brock Thompson singled and Murray Marvin drew a walk. The next batter was retired before Thompson scored on a wild pitch. Huffman and Hard drew walks to load the bases and a wild pitch allowed two runs to score. The next batter was retired, ending the half-inning with Warroad furthering their lead 9-2.
The first Crookston batter was retired before Parker Kelly singled. Lucas Miller and Caden Ames drew walks before a pitch hit George Widman to score a run. Alex Longoria doubled to score three runs and cut the Crookston deficit to 9-6. The next batter was retired before Larson hit a single to score a run. The next batter was retired, ending the inning with Warroad still ahead 9-7.
SEVENTH INNING
Warroad began with a lead-off single from Pietruszcwski before the next batter grounded into a double play. Grover hit a single before the next batter was retired.
The first Crookston batter was retired before Parker Kelly singled. The next two batters were retired to end the game with Warroad winning 9-7.
Crookston falls to 14-9 on the year and will take on Fertile in the loser bracket.
