The Crookston American Legion Post 20 Baseball team took an 8-4 lead and held on to beat Win-E-Mac at Jim Karn Field in Crookston on Friday night.
FIRST INNING-
Win-E-Mac immediately got things going to start the inning as N. Schow and Owen Strom singled. A run scored on an error before Bergen Howard doubled to score another run for a 2-0 lead. The next batter walked with one out before the next two batters struck out.
Crookston’s Matt Contreras singled with one out before Blake Melsa singled to score a run. Teagen Lubinski doubled to score a run to tie the game at 2-2. Lucas Perala and Isaiah Donarski singled to score a run for a 3-2 lead through one inning.
SECOND INNING-
Win-E-Mac was retired in 1-2-3 fashion with a strikeout and a pair of groundouts.
Crookston added more runs in the bottom of the inning when Parker Kelly walked, Contreras singled, and Jay Reese drew a walk after the original batter, Melsa, fouled a pitch off and it hit him in the eye. With bases loaded, Lubinski was hit by a pitch to score a run. Perala hit into a fielder’s choice, and another run scored as Win-E-Mac got the out at second base. Crookston added another run on a wild pitch for a 6-2 lead. Donarski walked, and Nolan Cassavant flew out to right field to score another run on a sacrifice fly for a 7-2 lead.
THIRD INNING –
Win-E-Mac’s Strom led off with a walk, Braylon Hamre reached on catcher’s interference. After a fly out, Davis walked, Below singled to score two runs to get within a 7-4 deficit.
Crookston’s first two batters were retired with a groundout and a strikeout. Jay Reese walked before another groundout for the third out of the inning.
FOURTH INNING-
Win-E-Mac’s Johnson reached on an error with one out before Crookston’s Parker Kelly struck out the next two batters.
A pitch hit Crookston’s Lucas Perala to start the bottom of the inning. After a strikeout, Cassavant grounded out, and a run scored for a 8-4 Post 20 lead.
FIFTH INNING-
Win-E-Mac’s Hamre reached on a strikeout and a passed ball and scored on a Howard double. Davis walked, and after two strikeouts, a run scored on a passed ball to bring Win-E-Mac within an 8-6 deficit.
Crookston’s Kelly reached on a one-out infield single and advanced to second on an error. Contreras and Reese were hit by a pitch to load the bases before the next two batters were retired.
SIXTH INNING-
Win-E-Mac went down in 1-2-3 fashion with two strikeouts and a line out.
Crookston’s Cassavant walked with one out before the next two batters struck out.
SEVENTH INNING-
Win-E-Mac’s Hamre was hit by a pitch before the next three batters were retired with a pop out and two strikeouts and Crookston won the game 8-6.
Crookston improves to 8-7 on the year, but more importantly 8-1 in league play and they remain in first place in the south pod.
