The Crookston American Legion Post 20 Baseball team mboth won and lost by a score of 13-3 against Fosston on Monday night.
FIRST INNING-
After two quick outs to start the game, Fosston got a runner at third after a two-out triple from Hudson Boushee. However, he would be stranded at third, as Blake Melsa induced a groundout to second to end the inning.
In the home half, Crookston got started quickly with a Parker Kelly single. Matt Contreras was then hit by a pitch, and after a flyout put runners on the corners with one away, Gavin Hlucny tripled to dead center, driving in two to make it 2-0. Melsa then stepped up and drove in Hlucny with a single to make it 3-0. Lucas Perala then walked and Carter Fee was hit by a pitch to load the bases, but back-to-back strikeouts ended the inning, limiting the damage to just 3 runs.
SECOND INNING-
Fosston looked to push a bit more in the 2nd inning, but back-to-back strikeouts to start seemed to quell any threat. However, an error put a runner on with two away, and a single and error resulted in Parker Nelson circling the bases, cutting the lead down to 3-2. Melsa would get another strikeout to end the frame.
In the bottom of the inning, the Crookston lineup showed up again. Kelly led off with another hit, but he was caught stealing. Contreras then doubled, and Teagan Lubinski drove him in with an RBI single to make it 4-2 Crookston. Hlucny then reached on an error, and after swiping second, scored along with Lubinski on a two-run single by Melsa to make it 6-2. After Perala walked and a popout occurred, Lucas Miller singled in one run to make it 7-2, but was thrown out at second to end the inning.
THIRD INNING –
Ryne Duppong led off the 3rd inning for Fosston with a single. Melsa then recorded back to back strikeouts, but tin those two at-bats, Duppong stole second and advanced to third on a wild pitch. That would prove to be crucial as Mitchell Mulry singled in Duppong, cutting the lead to 7-3 before another strikeout ended the inning.
In the home half, Kelly notched his third hit of the game with a one-out single, and scored from first on a double by Contreras to make it 8-3. Contreras reached third on an error, and scored on a Lubinski sacrifice fly, giving Crookston a 9-3 advantage before a groundout ended the inning.
FOURTH INNING-
Fosston got a leadoff single to start the 4th inning, but two groundouts and a strikeout immediately ended any sort of threat.
Crookston got a Melsa walk, a Perala single and a Fee hit by pitch to load the bases instantly to start the bottom of the 4th. After a strikeout, Tarek Siegle was also hit by a pitch, bringing in a run to make it 10-3, and a Kelly single, his fourth of the game, made it 11-3 with just one out. Contreras then drove in two more with a single to make it 13-3, and that would be all Crookston would get in the 4th.
FIFTH INNING-
Fosston got a two-out walk from Hudson Boushee in the 5th, but two groundouts and a lineout ended the inning, and Crookston took game 1 by a score of 13-3.

Game 2
FIRST INNING-
Fosston got off to a better start to game 2 of the doubleheader, as a walk followed by a single put runners on the corners with nobody out instantly. Boushee then grounded into a 1-6-3 double play, but the runner on third came in to score to put Fosston up 1-0. With the bases empty and two away, Fosston then got a double and back-to-back walks to load the bases, but Cody Demerais picked off the runner at 3rd to end the frame.
After back-to-back outs to start the home half of the inning, Hlucny and Greyson Ecker both walked to put two on with two away. However, a flyout ended the inning.
SECOND INNING-
Fosston got a leadoff single to start the second inning, but two quick outs looked to eliminate any sort of threat. That is, until Duppong tripled to right-center field to give Fosston a 2-0 lead. Duppong would then score on a wild pitch to make it 3-0, before a groundout ended the inning.
Nolan Cassavant led off the bottom of the second inning with a double, but he would be stranded on the basepaths as the next three batters went down via strikeout to end the inning.
THIRD INNING –
In the 3rd, Fosston again started with a walk followed by a single, putting runners on the corners with nobody out. Jakob Rudie was next, and he hit a sacrifice fly to put Fosston up 4-0. A strikeout and force play would end the inning, keeping the damage in the inning to just one run.
In the home half, Melsa led off with a single, and after a strikeout, Hlucny walked. After another strikeout put two away, Demerais singled to load the bases for Cassavant, who drove home two to cut the lead to 4-2. Demerais then stole home while the pitcher wasn’t looking to cut the lead to 4-3, before a strikeout ended the inning.
FOURTH INNING-
Crookston got two quick outs in the top of the 4th, but that’s when the Fosston bats woke up and the defense began to crack. An error put a runner at third, and a double by Brodie Sather made it 5-3. Boushee then singled to make it a 6-3 game, and Mulry then drove in Boushee to make it a 7-3 game. The offensive barrage did not end there, as after another hit put two runners on, and a double scored the 4th run of the inning, making it 8-3. Then, a two-base error brought home two more, and a wild pitch scored the final run of the inning, before a strikeout mercifully ended the frame.
Isaiah Donarski led off the bottom of the inning with a double, then after two straight strikeouts, two straight hit batsmen loaded the bases for Crookston. However, Greyson Ecker would fly out to end the inning.
FIFTH INNING-
Fosston looked to add more in the top of the 5th inning, and after a leadoff walk and error put a runner in scoring position, back-to-back hitters recorded back-to-back RBI singles, as Sather and Bouchee teams up to give Fosston a 13-3 lead. Consecutive strikeouts would then end the inning.
Crookston got back-to-back walks in the 5th inning, but they were unable to capitalize, and Fosston took game 2 by a score of 13-3, salvaging a split in the doubleheader.
Crookston now sits at 6-6 on the season, but they are 5-1 in league play and in first place in the south.
