The Crookston American Legion Nels T. Wold Post 20 baseball team is playing in the Dickinson, North Dakota Legion Baseball tournament this weekend and lost to Sheridan, Wyoming 14-0 on Saturday afternoon.
Sheridan started the scoring with a run in the bottom of the first inning with a hit batter who advanced to second on an error and scored on a single for a 1-0 lead.
Sheridan added another run in the second inning with a walk, stolen base, and an error for a 2-0 lead.
Sheridan led off the third inning with a single and after an out, a walk, and a double to score a run. After another walk, they had back-to-back singles and another walk. After a pitching change, a two rbi single and Sheridan led 8-0.
Sheridan had another big inning in the fourth inning with a walk, back-to-back hit batters to load the bases. A single scored two runs, and another run scored on an error. The next batter singled in a run for a 12-0 lead. The next batter walked and the next batter reached on an error and another run scored. A fly ball to left field was caught by Crookston, but another run scored for a 14-0 lead.
In the top of the fifth inning, Crookston had a threat with Alex Longoria reaching with a one-out single, which was followed by walks to Jacob Miller and Cade Coauette to load the bases. The next two batters were retired and Sheridan held on for a 14-0 victory.
Crookston drops to 7-11 on the year and will play in the seventh-place game at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday.
