CROOKSTON PARKS AND RECREATION ANNOUNCES WINTER EVENTS AND UPDATES CROOKSTON SPORTS CENTER

The Crookston Parks and Recreation Department has begun winter activities and updated the Crookston Sports Center.

Figure skating and youth hockey are about one month into their seasons. There will be a youth wrestling program that is open for registration as well. The deadline for wrestling registration is Friday, November 17. “CYBA also starts; you can register online at Crookstonbasketball.com,” said Crookston Parks and Recreation Director Jake Solberg, “Another program that we started is our Learn To Skate program.”

The Learn To Skate program is a hockey program for young ages that helps teach kids how to skate, wear equipment, and learn the game’s rules. Solberg also explained that it serves as the base program to enroll in before participating in the Mini-Mite hockey program, which also started earlier in the week.

As for adult winter activities, the adult winter volleyball league has also recently started, and the UMC curling league will be kicking off in the next two months. “This is roughly a couple months away, but UMC will be running the curling league,” said Solberg, “This is in our Fun Finder as well, but this starts January 17 and will run Wednesday nights starting at 6:00 p.m.”

The Crookston Parks and Recreation released their Fall and Winter Fun Finder in August. On the Fun Finder, you can see scheduled programs and events and sign-up information on various occasions. To view the Fun Finder, visit the city website at crookston.mn.us and search Parks and Rec; you can also find updates on the Crookston Parks and Rec Facebook page.

The Crookston Sports Center has upcoming events, including UMC Club Hockey games. On Friday, November 17, UMC will take on Bethel College at 7:00 p.m., and they will play each other again on Saturday, November 18, at 1:00 p.m. Crookston Girls Hockey will also have a game on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. where they will take on Fort Frances.

CROOKSTON SPORTS CENTER UPDATES

The CSC recently had brine pump problems on the ice, and it was reported to the city that all issues had been addressed and the rink was playable. No other problems have been reported. “Our brine pump that pumps the liquid that cools the ice to the rink, there was a wire that fried, said Solberg, “We got that fixed as soon as possible; that was fixed relatively quickly.”

The CSC recently had a hockey equipment vending machine installed. This machine dispenses hockey equipment such as tape, hockey sticks, and other accessories. It also includes figure skating equipment. The device is located upstairs in the event rink at the Crookston Sports Center.
