East Grand Forks hits 4 HR to sweep Crookston Baseball in DH

The East Grand Forks Green Wave pounded four home runs, while Crookston committed 11 errors and walked or hit 16 batters over two games as the Wave coasted to a pair of Section 8AA victories 19-2 and 14-3 in five innings each at Stauss Park in East Grand Forks.

FIRST INNING-
Crookston retired in a 1-2-3 fashion with two strikeouts and one flyout to left field.
East Grand Forks took advantage of Pirate pitching control issues as Chay Boesflag led off with a walk and stole second and third base. Mason Frize singled to score a run for a 1-0 lead. After a groundout, Carson McDonald reached on an error that allowed a run to score for a 2-0 lead. Cole Schmiedeberg and Jake Stassen walked before Caden Walsh singled to score a run for a 3-0 lead. After a strikeout, Grant Kovar walked with bases loaded to give the Green Wave a 4-0 lead after one inning.

SECOND INNING-
Crookston’s Isaiah Donarski reached an error before Lucas Perala was hit by a pitch with one out, and the Pirates had a threat going. After a sacrifice bunt advanced the runners to second and third, the next two batters struck out.
EGF’s Frize started the inning with a solo home run for a 5-0 lead. The next batter walked and McDonald reached on a fielder’s choice. Schmeideberg walked before Stassen hammered a fly over the left field fence for a three-run home run for an 8-0 lead.

THIRD INNING –
Crookston was retired in 1-2-3 fashion with three strikeouts.
East Grand Forks blew the game wide open in the bottom of the inning. With one out, Boespflug singled, Frize walked, and Brody Anderson smashed a drive over the left field fence for a three-run home run and an 11-0 lead. After a hit batter and a walk, Stassen doubled to score a run for a 12-0 lead. A run scored on an error, and after another walk, Grant Kovar tripled to score three runs. After an error and a single, McDonald doubled in two more runs for a 19-0 lead through three innings.

FOURTH INNING-
The first two Pirate batters were retired before Lucas Perala and Cody Demarais singled for th first hits of the game. The next batter struck out and the threat was over.

FIFTH INNING-
Crookston’s Davin Janek led off with a single, and after a pair of strikeouts, Greyson Ecker launched a blast over the left-center field fence for a two-run home run to get within a 19-2 deficit. Gavyn Hlucny walked before Isaiah Donarski singled up the middle. The next batter struck out and East Grand Forks won the game 19-2.

Game 2

FIRST INNING-
With one out, Greyson Ecker walked for Crookston. After a groundout, Isaiah Donarski singled to score a run for a 1-0 lead.
Crookston’s defense struggled in the bottom of the inning as the Green Wave’s Frize reached on an error. After a groundout, Anderson reached on another Pirate error, and a run scored to tie the game at 1-1. The next batter reached on an error before Schmiedeberg singled to score two runs for a 3-1 lead. The Green Wave had back-to-back singles from Stassen and Walsh to score two runs for a 5-1 lead. After the second out of the inning, Kovar walked and Frize singled to score a run for a 6-1 lead.

SECOND INNING-
Crookston’s Dexter Janek singled with one out, but the next two batters struck out and the half-inning was over.
East Grand Forks’ Anderson led off the bottom of the inning by hitting his second home run of the game for a 7-1 lead. McDonald reached on another Pirate error and Schmiedeberg walked before a run scored on a Stassen sacrifice fly. The next two batters were retired and the Green Wave led 8-1.

THIRD INNING –
Crookston’s Ecker walked with one out before the next two batters were retired.
EGF’s Kovar started the bottom of the inning with a walk. After an out, Frize walked before two runs scored on another Pirate error. Ulland singled to score another run for an 11-1 lead.

FOURTH INNING-
Crookston started the inning with a Demarais double and Cassavant followed with a basehit that went off the pitcher and the Pirates haad runners at the corners.
Davin Janek singled to score a run to get within an 11-2 deficit.
EGF answered in the bottom of the inning when Carslon doubled and scored on a wild pitch for a 12-2 lead. Frize singled and Boespflug reached on another Pirate error before Anderson singled to score two runs for a 14-2 lead.

FIFTH INNING-
Crookston needed at least three runs to keep the game going. Dexter Janek reached on an error, Ecker walked, and a run scored on a fielder’s choice to get the Pirates within a 14-3 deficit with two outs. The next batter struck out and the game was over with EGF winning 14-3 in five innings.

Crookston drops to 5-8 on the year and will take on Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton in Glyndon on Thursday. East Grand Forks improves to 9-4 on the year and 7-0 in section play.
