CROOKSTON PIRATE BOYS HOCKEY FALLS TO #2 WARROAD 8-0

The Crookston Pirate Boys Hockey team fell to the #2 Warroad Warriors, 8-0 at the Crookston Sports Center.

FIRST PERIOD
The game started with Warroad getting some good chances early. Warroad struck first as Taven James won a faceoff in their offensive zone, and Carson Pilgrim grabbed the puck, got to the middle, and fired a shot into the net to make it 1-0. Warroad kept their offensive intensity up, firing lots of shots on the net, but Parker Kelly kept those shots out of the net to keep it at 1-0. Later in the period, Crookston’s Garrett Fischer got a pass from Jay Reese, and Fischer fired a shot from a sharp angle, but Warroad’s Benjamin Norris saved it. The first penalty of the night would be called on Warroad, but Pilgrim would get the puck on a two-on-one and fired a perfect shot that found the net for a 2-0 lead. Warroad would maintain their two-goal lead heading into the second.

SECOND PERIOD
Crookston only had 16 seconds of the man advantage to begin the period, which Warroad could kill off. Warroad once again would use their offense to create chances, but Kelly stood tall in the net for the Pirates to keep the game at 2-0. Crookston would get called for their first penalty of the night as Warroad headed to the power play. Pilgrim would get a few shots during the Warriors’ power play, but Kelly saved them all as the Pirates killed off the penalty. About two minutes later, Crookston would get called for another penalty, sending Warroad back to the power play. Pilgrim again saw a lot of ice time during the man advantage as he helped lead the Warrior’s power play. However, Kelly would still keep Warroad off the scoreboard in the second as Crookston fought off another penalty. Jackson Reese, with about two minutes left in the period, found the loose puck at the blue line, spun, and attempted a long shot, which Norris was able to save.  With time winding down in the period, Ryan Lund got the puck at the point, skated across to the far side, and sent a shot that was able to find its way through some traffic and into the back of the net to give Warroad a 3-0 lead heading into the third period.

THIRD PERIOD
In the third period, Warroad found themselves on a 2-on-0 breakaway as Ryan Shaugabay sent a pass across for Dominic Anthony, who buried the goal to give Warroad a 4-0 lead. Shortly after the goal, Warroad would head back to the power play, and this time, they would convert as Shaugabay fired a perfect tape-to-tape pass for Broden Hontvet, who scored to make it 5-0. Later in the period, Taven James whipped a pass to the middle for Murray Marvin-Cordes, who showcased a few stickhandles before firing the puck into the net, giving Warroad a 6-0 advantage. About two minutes later, Anthony brought up the puck into the offensive zone and sent a pass across for Shaugabay, who sent it into the net to give Warroad a 7-0 lead. Just a few seconds before the final buzzer, Warroad sent a couple of shots at the net, which Kelly saved, but Kyler Lien was there for a rebound and scored to make it 8-0 which would be the final tally.

Crookston drops to 7-6-0 on the season and will face Bagley/Fosston next Thursday on the KROX YouTube Live Stream. #2 Warroad improves to 13-3-0 and will take on #1 Hermantown on Saturday.
