The Crookston Pirate Girls Tennis team beat the Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines 4-3 and lost to the Detroit Lakes Lakers 6-1 in a triangular played in Wadena on Friday afternoon.
CROOKSTON vs WADENA-DEER CREEK
The first match of the day was a close one as the Crookston Pirates beat Wadena-Deer Creek 4-3. Crookston’s Lauren Tull won her first singles match by winning a great battle. Tull won the first set 7-6 and 7-5 in the tie-breaker. If that wasn’t enough, Tull won the second set 7-6 and 8-6 in the tie-breaker. The other singles win came, once again, at fourth singles as Haddie Halland cruised to a 6-2, 6-2 victory.
The Pirate first doubles team of Kaylen Bedard and Ella Capistran were solid as they won their match 6-1, 6-4. The fourth win for Crookston came at third doubles as Katie Seaver and Caitlyn Maruska won a back-and-forth battle in three sets. The Pirates won the first set 6-4. They lost the second set 6-1, before winning the third set 6-0.

The Detroit Lakes Lakers were dominant as they swept the doubles matches and won the top three singles match on their way to a 6-1 victory. Crookston’s lone win came at fourth singles with Haddie Halland picking up an exciting three-set victory. After losing the first set 7-6, she bounced back to win the second set 7-5 and won the third set 10-5. The first doubles team of Kaylen Bedard and Ella Capistran played well and lost a heartbreaker in three sets. The Pirate duo won the first set in impressive fashion, 6-2. DL won the second set 6-0 to force a third set. DL won the third set 110-7 to win the match.
