CROOKSTON PIRATE WRESTLERS FALL TO FRAZEE IN SECTION SEMI’S

The Crookston Pirate Wrestling team knew they were going to have their hands full with the top seed Frazee and it proved to be true as the Hornets won nine of the 14 matches and cruised to a 51-21 victory in a Section 8A semi-final match in Fertile.

Frazee came out strong and picked up a pin in the 106-pound match for a 6-0 lead. Crookston answered with a win at 113 pounds as Evin Trudeau took a 5-0 lead at the end of the first period.  After no scoring in the second period, Trudeau dominated the third period and led 8-2.  Evin added a takedown for a 10-2 lead, but Frazee’s Liam Hamm scored an escape with a few seconds left in the match, and Trudeau won 10-3 to bring Crookston within a 6-3 deficit in the dual.
Frazee won the 120-pound match by a pin before Crookston’s Gavyn Hlucny took a 2-0 lead with a takedown.  In the second period, Gavyn scored two more points on a reversal for a 4-0 lead.  In the third period, Gavyn gave up an escape before getting a takedown to win the match 6-1.
Frazee won the next two matches by pin for a 24-6 lead.
Crookston responded with Ethan Bowman, a senior, coming out determined to get the win and he won by a pin in 49 seconds.   Carter Coauette followed with a win by decision at 152 pounds.  After a scoreless first period, Carter scored a point with an escape to start the period.  He added a takedown and ended up taking a 3-1 lead into the third period.  Carter held on for a 3-2 lead to bring the Pirates within a 24-15 deficit in the dual.
Frazee won the next four matches.  Two wins by pin, a forfeit, and a decision and with the four wins in a row, Frazee had officially won the match.
The final Crookston win came at 220-pounds as Ethan Boll jumped out to a 6-2 lead and won by a first-period pin.  Frazee won the heavyweight match by pin to win the match 51-21.  

Crookston ends the team portion of the season with a record of 14-9 on the year.  Frazee advanced to the championship match while they take on United North Central.
