Fosston/Bagley cruises to a win over short-handed Crookston Wrestling

The Crookston Pirate Wrestling team had a double whammy as they were missing five wrestlers due to illness and were taking on a very good Fosston/Bagley Brawler team in a 64-3 loss in a Section 8A dual at the Crookston High School gymnasium.

CROOKSTON VS Fosston/Bagley –
Crookston started the match open at 107 pounds, and the Brawlers had a 6-0 lead.
Fosston/Bagley’s Eli Phrakonkham came out strong at 114 pounds and won by a Tech Fall in the first period for an 11-0 lead.
At 121 pounds, Jack LaCroix dominated the 121-pound match and earned a major decision by a 14-1 score.
Crookston was open at 127 and 133 pounds, and Fosston/Bagley took a 27-0 lead. Shane Thompson kept Fosston/Bagley’s winning ways going as he won the 139-pound match by a pin in the first period. At 145 pounds, Fosston/Bagley’s Zach Thompson (ranked #6 in the state at 145 pounds) showed by he is ranked as he won by tech fall in the first period. Fosston/Bagley won the next match by pin before winning two major decisions. The won the next match by pin in 31 seconds before winning by a forfeit for a 64-0 lead going into the final match of the night.
Riley Helgeson was Crookston’s last chance for some points, and the senior, on a senior night, didn’t disappoint. Riley took a 2-0 lead just over 30 seconds into the match and took the same lead into the second period. There was no scoring in the second period. The Brawlers Jonathan Rose scored a point on an escape six seconds into the third period. There was no scoring for over a minute until Helgeson got a takedown for a 5-1 lead with 30 seconds left in the match. Helgeson added two more points in the final seconds and won the match 7-1 to get his team three points to avert a shutout.

Crookston drops to 2-9 in duals on the year and will compete in the Thief River Falls Invitational on Saturday. Fosston/Bagley improves to 3-3 in duals.
