CROOKSTON PIRATE WRESTLING WINS ALL 3 DUALS AT MAHNOMEN, BOWMAN WINS 150TH CAREER MATCH

The Crookston Pirate Wrestling team beat the Pelican Rapids Vikings 41-39, beat the Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines 47-36, and finished the night with a 66-18 victory over Mahnomen/Waubun Thunderbirds in the Mahnomen/Waubun duals in Mahnomen.  Crookston’s Ethan Bowman won the 150th match of his career in the first match of the evening. 

CROOKSTON vs PELICAN RAPIDS – 
Pelican Rapids won the first two matches by pin before Crookston’s Evin Trudeau made quick work of his opponent at 120 pounds with a pin in 68 seconds to bring the Pirates within a 12-6 deficit.  Crookston was open at 126 pounds and gave up another six points on the forfeit. Pelican Rapids won again at 132 pounds when Jed Carlson took a 7-4 lead after two periods, and Gavyn Hlucny scored two points on a takedown with one minute left in the third period, but Carlson scored an escape and held on for a 9-6 victory.  The Vikings kept it rolling at 138 pounds with another pin to take a commanding 27-6 lead.  
Crookston stopped the 5-1 Pelican Rapids run to start the match, with Casey Weiland picking up a win by pin in 49 seconds at 145 pounds.   At 152 pounds, Ethan Bowman kept things going and jumped out to an 8-0 lead in the first period.  Bowman added five more points with a reversal and three near fall points for a 13-0 lead in the third period.  In the third, Bowman built a 15-point lead and won by a tech fall to give his team five points, and Crookston trailed 27-17. Ethan’s win was the 150th victory of his career. 
Carter Coauette continued the winning streak with a win at 160 pounds.  Carter took a 6-2 lead into the second period after an impressive first two minutes.  Carter had an 8-4 lead before he won by a pin with 35 seconds left in the second period to bring his team within a 27-23 deficit.
Crookston was open at 170 and 182, and Pelican Rapids took a 39-23 lead with three matches left.  Crookston’s Hunter Knutson and Hunter Kresl won by forfeits to bring Crookston within a 39-35 deficit with the heavyweight match left.   #1 ranked Ethan Boll made quick work of his opponent and won by a pin in 19 seconds, and Crookston came from behind to win the dual 41-39.

Crookston improves to 6-2 in duals. Pelican Rapids drops to 1-3 in duals on the year.

CROOKSTON vs WADENA-DEER CRREK –

Crookston won the first two matches of the dual, with Mauricio Arriaga and Evin Trudeau winning by pins for a 12-0 lead.  Wadena-Deer Creek responded with a pin at 120 pounds before Crookston’s Gavyn Hlucny answered with a quick first-period pin, and the Pirates led 18-6.  WDC won the next match by a forfeit before winning by a pin to tie the dual at 18-18. 
The Pirates got back on the winning track with a decisive win by pin in the second period by Casey Weiland, Ethan Bowman won by a forfeit at 152 pounds, and Crookston led 30-18.
At 160 pounds, Carter Coauette built up a 9-2 lead halfway through the second period.  13 seconds later, Carter had a takedown and three nearfall points for a 13-4 lead.  Carter continued to dominate and built a 16-4 lead at the end of the second period, needing one more point for a tech fall. 32 seconds into the final period, Carter scored two points on a takedown and won by a tech fall at 4:32 to give the Pirates a 35-18 lead.
Crookston was open at the following two weights, and Wadena-Deer Creek was within a 35-30 deficit with three matches remaining.
At 195 pounds, WDC’s Koby Endres picked up a pin in the second period to give the Wolverines a 36-35 lead with two matches to go.
Once again, Ethan Boll didn’t have any problems with his opponent as he won by pin in 36 seconds to give the Pirates a 41-36 lead going into the heavyweight match.
It all came down to Hunter Kresl at heavyweight for the Pirates.  If Hunter lost by decision or won, Crookston would win the match.  Kresl came out strong, and halfway through the first period, he got to the edge and got a pin with his heels inside the circle for a 47-36 victory over Wadena-Deer Creek.

Crookston improves to 7-2 in duals on the year.  Wadena-Deer Creek drops to 2-3 on the season.

CROOKSTON vs MAHNOMEN-WAUBUN –
Crookston’s Mauricio Arriaga started the final dual of the night with a pin in the second period for the second straight dual, and the Pirates took a 6-0 lead. Mahnomen-Waubun was open at 113 pounds so the Pirates took a 12-0 lead.  At 120 pounds, Evin Trudeau had a battle and led 6-3 going into the final minute of the match before getting a pin with four seconds left.  Gavyn Hlucny followed with a pin in the first period and the Pirates led 24-0 after four matches.  Mahnomen-Waubun won the ensuing two matches by forfeit and pin to get within a 24-12 deficit.  Crookston’s Casey Weiland and Ethan Bowman won by forfeit and Carter Coauette won by a pin in 78 seconds.
Mahnomen-Waubun won the next two matches by forfeits before Crookston won the final three matches of the dual.  Hunter Knutson won by a pin in 68 seconds, Ethan Boll won by a forfeit, and Riley Helgeson won by a pin in 28 seconds at Heavyweight to give the Pirates a 66-18 victory to complete the sweep of all three matches. 

Crookston improves to 8-2 on the year in duals and Mahnomen/Waubun drops to 3-7 on the year.  Crookston will be at Fertile-Beltrami on Tuesday at 6:00 p.m.
