The Crookston Pirate Boys Hockey team posted their third shutout victory of the season over the Kittson County Central Bearcats, winning 7-0 at the Crookston Sports Center.
FIRST PERIOD
Crookston would get off to a great start, as Carter Trudeau sent his shot into the net to collect his first goal of the season just a minute into the game to give the Pirates a 1-0 lead. Crookston would head to the power play not long after the Trudeau goal, but Bearcats goalie Isaac Lindegard kept Crookston out of the net to keep it 1-0. Later in the period, Ryan Street sent a pass to Trudeau, who quickly sent it back to Street as he cut to the net, and Street blasted the puck into the net for the Pirates second goal. Exactly one minute later, Crookston’s Liam Larson picked up the puck below the goal line and dished a pass to Jackson Reese in front as Reese one-timed it into the net to give Crookston a 3-0 lead. Crookston would maintain their three-goal lead heading into the second.
SECOND PERIOD
In the second, Crookston went to the power play one minute into the period, but Kittson County Central’s penalty kill stood tall once again as the Bearcats kept it a 3-0 game. Crookston would go back to the power play a little later as Blake Melsa entered the zone for the Pirates on the far side, dropped a pass over to Lucas Miller, who was in the middle, and Miller’s wrister found the net to give Crookston a power play goal and a 4-0 lead. Just a minute later, off of a neutral zone faceoff, Ryan Street headed into the corner and delivered a perfect pass for Kadin Edwards out in front as he scored to make it 5-0. The Pirates would go a man down as Kittson County Central went to the power play for the first time in the game, but Parker Kelly stood tall in his crease, and the Pirates penalty kill kept the Bearcats out of the net and kept the game at 5-0. With a few minutes left in the period, Crookston went back to the power play as Greyson Ecker picked up the puck on the near boards after a Pirate shot, circled around the offensive zone, and fired his shot into the net to make it 6-0. Crookston would keep their 6-0 lead heading into the third.
THIRD PERIOD
In the third period, Kittson County Central went back to the power play as Kelly once again was asked to make a few saves with the Bearcats having the man advantage. Crookston killed off the power play and kept it a 6-0 lead. Later in the period, Grant Funk was at the point and took a pass from Jackson Reese, fired a shot towards the net that took a deflection out in front, and went off of the skate of Miller and into the net for Miller’s second of the night. That gave Crookston a 7-0 lead. Later in the period, the Pirates generated a lot of offense, but Lindegard made a flurry of saves on the Pirates as he finished with 40 saves in the game. Crookston would keep the Bearcats out of their own defensive end and off the scoreboard as the Pirates picked up a 7-0 win.
Crookston improves to 9-7-0 on the year and takes on East Grand Forks on Thursday on KROX. Kittson County Central drops to 2-18-0 on the year and will host Lake of the Woods on Thursday.
