ECFE Offers Free Classes to Benefit Families

Crookston’s Early Childhood Family Education is meeting the needs of more families by offering new class times and locations. An evening Mixed Age Magic class will return in an evening format on Thursdays, October 10, November 14, and December 12, from 4:30—6 p.m. Families meet in the classroom/gym for circle time with stories and songs. Parents will meet informally to share ideas and discuss topics such as positive discipline strategies, challenging behaviors, food, health and safety tips, and more. Parents learn from each other as they discuss topics that most interest them. During parent education time, the children remain in the classroom/gym to play and explore with each other and the early childhood teacher. Both parent and child benefit from peer interaction and positive messaging. Gina Gunderson and Kiely Tate lead the monthly classes. Parents can register for the free class by calling 281-2762.

A morning class for parents of infants will be held weekly at the Crookston Public Library. Newborn Baby Talk is for parents and their infants from birth to 12 weeks of age each Tuesday from 9:30—11 a.m. Facilitated discussion will cover topics from feeding, attachment, sleep, development, family changes, and returning to work. There will be a public health nurse, parent educator, and lactation specialist available to answer questions and provide support and information on your new journey of parenting. Parents will have the opportunity to have their baby weighed. Baby Talk is a collaboration between Polk County Public Health, Crookston Public Schools Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE) Program, and Crookston Public Library.
