ROAD WORK ON UNION LAKE ROAD AND IN FISHER APPROVED

The Polk County Highway Department awarded two road projects this week.  The first was for overlay and widening the shoulders on County State Aid Highway (CSAH) 36, CSAH 41 and CSH 42 around Union Lake.  The project in total encompasses 15 miles and was awarded to Knife River Materials out of Bemidji for $1,837,371.00.

The second project was for CSAH 61 and CSAH 111 in Fisher explained Polk County Engineer Richard Sanders. “We had bid letting on Friday for mill and overlay on CSAH 61 which runs from CSAH 15 south and then east past the school,” said Sanders.  “And then also on CSAH 111 which is Main St. and then Thompson Ave. back to CSAH 15 on the west side of Fisher.  We’re also doing handicap ramps because the ones that were there don’t meet ADA standards.  So we’ll be replacing those and adding some.  Agassiz Asphalt LLC out of Newfolden was the lowest responsible bidder on that.”  Agassiz Asphalt LLC’s winning bid was for $281,078.00.

The county also received three quotes for sweeping municipal CSAHs in the county’s small cities. Twedt’s Sweepers INC. out of Grand Forks was the lowest responsible quote at $104 per hour explained Sanders.  “All our small cities have municipal CSAHs within those cities,” said Sanders. “In Fisher, it was County State Aid Highway 111.  We have them in Nielsville, Climax, Crookston, East Grand Forks, Erskine, Mentor, McIntosh, Fosston, Trail, Gully.  In all those cities we take care of the sweeping to get the dirt, leaves and everything else out of the gutters and off the streets on our roadways.”

The Highway Department also awarded a quote for the Polk County signs that need to be replaced on roadways to MR Signs out of Fergus Falls for $8,724.40 said, Sanders.  “Every fall my sign department and assistant engineer figure out which signs need to be replaced the following summer,” said Sanders.  “They put together a quote to replace those signs.  MR Signs out of Fergus Falls was the lowest responsible quote.”
