KIEL PLACES IN 2 EVENTS, KRESSIN AND BOROWICZ PLACE IN HURDLES AT STATE TRACK

The Crookston Pirate track teams had three individuals place with Noah Kiel finished 3rd in the 200 meters and 8th in the 100 meters, Emma Borowicz broke a school record and finished second in the 300 hurdles, and Breanna Kressin finished fourth in the 100 hurdles to wrap up a tremendous day at the Minnesota High School League State Class A Track and Field meet at St. Michael-Albertville High School.

Noah Kiel had a great day as he medaled in two events with a third place finish in the 200 meters and an eighth place finish in the 100 meters.
In the 200 meters, Noah was seeded third place and finished third while cutting four-hundredths of a second off his section time.  “I knew I had to push hard out of the blocks and I knew I had to catch the kids in lane four and five in the first 100 meters to have a shot,” said Kiel. “I ran a pretty good race and to get the third place ribbon was pretty awesome.”

In the 100 meters, Kiel was seeded 10th going into the state meet and moved up two spots.  There is no prelim races at the state track meet this year so Noah ran in the first heat and finished second place.  “I felt like I could have got out of the blocks a little better,” said Kiel. “Other than that, I thought it was a good race.”

The 4×100 relay team of Ethan Boll, Easton Tangquist, Caden Boike, and Noah Kiel finished 12th place.
Ethan Boll was the first leg of the relay. “I think it went well,” said Boll. “We could have been a little better on the handoff.  I got out of the blocks pretty good and I had a solid race.”
Easton Tangquist said it was a solid race. “It was pretty exciting to wrap it up here at state,” said Tangquist. “It wasn’t our best handoff, it is crazy because it is way closer here.  Track has been awesome and I switched over from golf my sophomore year and I am glad I did.”
Caden Boike said it was a good race. “Our handoff could have been better, but it was alright,” said Boike. “In the heat of the moment it was pretty exciting and there are so many outstanding athletes here, it was a lot of fun.”
Noah Kiel was happy with the race. “I thought me and Caden, it was probably our best hand off all season,” said Kiel. “I moved us up two spots and that is all I could do.  We all ran hard.”

GIRLS
Breanna Kressin ran her personal best time and just missed a school record with a time of 15.26 seconds in the 100 hurdles to finish fourth place.  The school record is 15.24, set by Kayla Wahlin in 2003.  “I think it went pretty good with the conditions,” said Kressin. “I had a pretty clean race and I was pretty proud of how my start went.  It was a clean race, it feel great.”  Breanna said her goal is to break the record next year and get back to the state meet.

Emma Borowicz competed in the pole vault and cleared eight feet easily on her first jump.  On her first vault at 8-6 the pole slipped out of her hand and she missed the next two attempts and finished 15th place with a vault of eight feet. “I had a lot of excitement running through me at the pole vault,” said Borowicz. “It didn’t go how I had hoped, but I am okay with it and am really looking forward to running the hurdles.”

Borowicz’s anticipation for the 300 hurdles turned out to be for a great reason.  Emma not only ran her personal best time, but shattered the school record by almost a half-second and finished second place with a time of 45.16.  The time was .41 seconds better than the school record time of 45.57 set by Aleece Durbin in 2017.  Borowic also edged Thief River Falls’ Brooklyn Brouse, who finished third.  “I thought I got out of the blocks pretty well and i was gauging myself with the girl in front of me and she hit the first hurdle first and that stuck in that I had to start pushing. I was going as hard as I could and I hit all my steps,” said Borowicz. “I have been struggling on the last two hurdles throughout the season and what made the difference today is I hit the second to last hurdle like I wanted to.  I knew I crossed and I could feel Brooklyn (Brouse) of Thief River Falls next to me I knew I had it.  I don’t think I could have asked for anything better.”
Emma will be going to Minnesota State Mankato next year to run track (the 400 hurdles and other events) and major in civil engineering and pre-med.
