PIRATE BOYS HOCKEY WINS OVER BRECKENRIDGE/WAHPETON ON SENIOR NIGHT

The Crookston Pirate Boys Hockey team picked up a 3-2 win over the Breckenridge/Wahpeton Blades on Senior Night at the Crookston Sports Center.

FIRST PERIOD
In the first, Crookston would get off to another great start as Garrett Fischer scored for the Pirates to make it a 1-0 lead. Later in the period, Mike Peterson flew down the left side for Breckenridge/Wahpeton and fired a shot, but Parker Kelly was able to make the save and fend off a couple more shots to keep the Pirates lead at 1-0. Crookston’s Brandon Colborn picked up the loose puck in the neutral zone and fired a shot that found the back of the net to give Crookston a 2-0 lead. Later in the period, the Blades were on a rush, and Jace Johanson sent a pass across over to Jaxson Lopez, who sent a shot on net, but Kelly came across the crease to make a fantastic save for Crookston and keep the game at 2-0. Kelly would be called upon to make a couple more saves towards the end of the first period, and he was able to keep the Blades out of the net. Crookston had a 2-0 lead after one.

SECOND PERIOD
In the second, Greyson Ecker, Jay Reese, and Fischer all had chances on the opening shift of the period for the Pirates, but the Blades freshman netminder, Cale Gilbertson, was able to keep Crookston out of the net early in the period. Later on, the Blades were in their offensive zone and Matt Peterson winded up a shot from the point with traffic out in front of the net, hit the post and his shot went into the net to make it a 1 goal game with Crookston still leading 2-1. Just two minutes after that, Jackson Reese won the puck for Crookston in their offensive zone, fed it to Kadin Edwards, who found Lucas Miller in front, and Miller buried the puck into the net, giving Crookston a 3-1 lead. Later in the period, Koda Donarski sent a shot to the net for the Pirates, where Jayden Steinbrink deflected the puck just over the net. Crookston would later get called for a penalty, sending the Blades to the power play. Crookston was able to kill it off and maintain their two-goal lead heading into the third.

THIRD PERIOD
To begin the third, it was a back-and-forth start to the period, but neither team could get a lot of shots off. The Blades were able to get a shot off from the far boards with traffic out in front again. Kelly made the save, and the puck got swept aside to the corner. Later in the period, Jaxson Lopez got the puck for the Blades and sent a pass across to Matt Peterson, who fired a shot on net. Kelly made the save, but the puck was loose in the crease and Isaiah Bruechert found the puck and poked it into the net to make it a 3-2 game with Crookston still leading. Later in the period, the Blades were
trying to pull the goalie but Crookston was able to keep the puck in their offensive zone and kill time. The Blades had one last rush to try and tie the game, but Kelly kept the Blades out of the net, and Crookston would get the senior night win 3-2.
