Pirate Girls Hockey shutout by #1 Warroad

The Crookston Pirate Girls Hockey team had a rough start to the day as their charter bus got stuck at the Crookston Sports Center and needed a tow truck. After the bus was out of the ditch behind the arena, the team took off, and the start of the game was pushed back 20 minutes. Warroad scored 54 seconds into the game and cruised the rest of the way for a 7-0 victory over the Pirates in a Section 8A matchup in Warroad.

FIRST PERIOD
Warroad came out strong and scored on their second shot of the game when they had the puck by the net and Makayla Lee skated in from the point, got a pass, and slid the puck into the net for a 1-0 lead 54 seconds into the game.
Crookston got their first shot on goal with 11:28 left in the period as Payton Demarais blocked a shot, skated the puck up the ice, and fired a wrist shot on goal. Off the ensuing faceoff, Adley Vigness won the draw and put a shot on goal, but Warroad’s Payton Rolli made the save.
Warroad continued to control play
, and over seven minutes into the period, the Warriors’ Jaylie French slid a pass to Karlee Kalbrenner in the slot area, and she wristed a shot through traffic and into the goal for a 2-0 lead.
Crookston was only able to muster two more shots for a total of four in the period, while Warroad continued to pepper the Pirate net with shots, a total of 17 in the period, but Maddi Abrams made some nice saves, and Warroad took a 2-0 lead into the first intermission.

SECOND PERIOD
Warroad continued its dominating play as they only allowed one Crookston shot on goal. The Warriors started the scoring a little over four minutes into the period when Emmie Hardwick got a pass to Kate Johnson, who sniped a shot into the net for a 3-0 lead. A little over three minutes later, Warroad won on the power play and it didn’t take them long to score as Vivienne Macowka let a shot go from the point and Taylor Reese tipped it in for a 4-0 lead. 51 seconds later, the Warriors scored again as Linnea Harren scored for a 5-0 lead. The Warriors added one more goal when Samantha Earhart slid a pass in front to Olivia Anthony who scored for a 6-0 lead, which was the score at the end of the period.

THIRD PERIOD
Warroad continued its domination of the game in the final period. Since the Warriors led by six goals, the entire period was running time. Crookston didn’t have a shot on goal in the period as the Warriors stellar defense continued.
Warroad continued to pepper the Pirate goal with shots and added a goal at the 9:38 mark and held on for a 7-0 victory.

Crookston drops to 4-9 on the season and will play North Shore Maddi Abrams was named the Crookston player of the game for her 44 saves in the game. Warroad improves to 12-2 on the year and will play Albert Lea on Tuesday.
