Pirate Girls Swim Team Finishes 2nd in First Home Meet

The Crookston Pirate Girls Swim team had their first home meet of the season and finished second place out of four teams at the Crookston Pool.  “It is always fun to swim in our own pool and have our fans right here with us,” said Pirate Coach Marley Melbye.
Detroit Lakes won the meet with 122 points and Crookston was second with 25 points, one point ahead of Thief River Falls.

Crookston was led by Elizabeth Erdman’s two individual second-place finishes and she also was a part of a second place 200 Free Relay and the third place 200 Medley Relay.   Thea Oman also had two-second place individual finishes and she also was a part of a second place 200 Free Relay and the third place 200 Medley Relay.  “The highlight today was the 200 Freestyle relay and the girls swam hard in the second half and we were in fifth or sixth early and to finish in second place was phenomenal,” said Coach Melbye.  “Thea Oman was cutting time and looking good, Elizabeth Erdman swam well and is finding her groove and looking good.  Victoria Proulx looked really good in her races.”
Coach Melbye was happy with her team’s performance. “The girls swam hard and Detroit Lakes is huge and a talented team and it is fun for some of our top girls to swim against top quality talent that Detroit Lakes has,” said Coach Melbye. “With seven girls it is pretty exciting to come out in second place.  It is great for the girls and they know they have the talent and work ethic.”
