Pirate Girls Swimmers Fall in Dual at Warroad

The Crookston Pirate Girls Swimmers had a great meet but Warroad/Roseau had the depth to win the dual 108 to 71 in a dual in Warroad.  Crookston won seven of the 12 events and had three first place finishes Madison Hoiland, Thea Oman and Elizabeth Erdman.  Hoiland had a first place in the 200 IM, 100 Breaststroke and she was part of the 200 Medley relay.  “Madison looked really good today,” said Pirate Coach Marley Melbye. “She was dominant in the 100 Breaststroke and really good in her 200 IM.  She tends to like the shorter freestyle races, but she looked really good in her races today.”  Thea Oman had a first place finish in the 200 Freestyle, 100 Freestyle and she was part of the 200 Medley.  Elizabeth Erdman finished first in the 100 Butterfly and 500 Freestyle and she was also part of the 200 Medley relay. “Elizabeth had an exceptional 100 butterfly today and she was excited about her swim,” said Coach Melbye. “It was one of her fastest times and looked really good with a faster pace and she was strong until the end.”
Fallon Johnson had one of her best meets of her career with third place finishes in the 200 and 500 freestyle races. “Fallon continues to surprise me and she is cutting significant amounts of time and is getting more confident,” said Coach Melbye. “I am excited to see what she will do the rest of the season.”
The Pirates had the most personal best times in the meet, more than they have had the rest of the season. “I think it was a lot of factors.  They were having a lot of fun and didn’t show signs of nervousness and getting more confident,” said Coach Melbye. “For us sitting where we are with six weeks left of the season, we are in good shape and if the girls keep improving like they have been, it will be fun to see what they can do the rest of the season.”
Crookston will travel to Thief River Falls on Thursday and travel to Fosston on Saturday.
