PIRATE WRESTLING EDGES BARNESVILLE, BOLL BREAKS CAREER WINS RECORD WITH 204

The Crookston Pirate Wrestling team won eight matches, including a big win from Senior Hunter Kresl at 195 pounds. At 220 pounds Ethan Boll won the 204th match of his career to break the Pirate wrestling career wins record of 203 held by Cody Weiland, to win the Section 8A quarterfinal match over the Barnesville Trojans 45-34 in Barnesville.

CROOKSTON vs BARNESVILLE –
Barnesville had a good start with a win by pin in the 106-pound match for a 6-0 lead.
Crookston answered with three wins by pin, with Evin Trudeau starting it off with a dominating performance while building an 11-0 lead in the first period.  Trudeau picked up a win by pin 28 seconds into the second period to tie the dual at 6-6.
Jaron Knutson started his match at 120 pounds with a takedown for a 2-0 lead before winning by a pin with 34 seconds left in the first period to give the Pirates a 12-6 lead.
The third win by pin came at 126 pounds, with Gavyn Hlucny coming out strong and building a 5-0 lead with a takedown and three nearfall points.  In the second period, Gavyn had an escape followed by a takedown for an 8-0 lead.  In the third period, Gavyn won by pin with 55 seconds remaining in the match to give the Pirates an 18-6 lead after four matches.
Barnesville won the next two matches by pin and a major decision to get within an 18-16 deficit.
Crookston’s seniors came out strong in all their matches, and Ethan Bowman was no different at 145 pounds as he won by pin in 21 seconds.  Carter 
Coauette came out strong and built an 8-2 lead going into the second period.  He led 11-2 in the second before winning by pin to give the Pirates a 30-16 lead.
Barnesville won the next two matches by pin and a forfeit, and they were within a 30-28 deficit with four matches remaining in the dual.
Crookston’s Hunter Knutson came out determined to win in his match at 182 pounds as he recorded an early takedown, dominated his opponent, and won by a pin with 36 seconds left in the first period.
Hunter Kresl had one of his best matches of the season as he built a 2-0 lead with a takedown in the first period.  There was no scoring in the second period.  Barnesville’s Jonny Robideau finally scored early in the third period with an escape, but Kresl was awarded a point on a potentially dangerous hold for a 3-1 lead.  Kresl led 3-2 before he scored two points on a reversal with 13 seconds left in the match, and he held on for a big 5-2 victory to give the Pirates a 39-28 lead.
Ethan Boll didn’t waste any time in his match at 220 pounds as he picked up a win by pin in the first period to solidify the dual victory.  He also broke Cody Weiland’s career wins record of 203 with the 204th win of his career.
Barnesville won the heavyweight match by pin, but Crookston won the dual 45-34. 

Crookston improves to 14-8 in duals on the year and advances to the Section 8A semi-finals on Friday at 6:00 p.m.  Crookston will wrestle the winner of #1 Frazee and #8 Fertile-Beltrami in Fertile.  KROX will have the game on KROX.
