Registration is open for the United Way of Crookston’s Women’s Gold Tournament scheduled for Friday, August 7, at the Minakwa Golf Course. Players will sign in beginning at 8:00 a.m. with a shotgun start at 9:00 a.m.
United Way Executive Director Libby Boucher noticed a lack of women’s golf events in Crookston and resolved to give women in the area a chance to enjoy some friendly competition while raising money for a good cause. Boucher said, “There hasn’t been a women’s tournament in Crookston for many years, and we know there are a lot of lady golfers in Crookston. So we decided, all right, let’s do it, and let’s see what happens. So we’re registering teams, and we have room for, we’re thinking we’re going to probably cap it at 18 teams.”
Registration is $300 per team of four and includes 18 holes of golf, breakfast and lunch, hole games, swag, and prize drawings. “There’s a really fun prize for the winning team that will be revealed on our social media shortly,” said Boucher. “I am super excited about it, and frankly, I will probably order and keep one for myself because it’s fabulous. We go for quirky. It’s awesome because, honestly, trophies, fine. They sit on a shelf, and you throw them in a box at some point. We like ours to be a little more whimsical and somewhat useful.”
Teams are encouraged to register in advance by calling 218-281-1715, emailing a completed registration form to exec@unitedwayofcrookston.org, or mailing a form to United Way, P.O. Box 218, Crookston, MN. 56176. Registration forms will also be made available at Minakwa.
The United Way is also seeking additional hole sponsors, starting at $100 for a co-sponsorship with social media mention, up to $500 for a solo sponsorship.
