SACRED HEART BASEBALL SCORES 3 IN THE 7TH TO BEAT ADA-BORUP-WEST

The Sacred Heart Eagle Baseball team scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to beat the Ada-Borup-West Cougars 7-6 in the west sub-section championship of the Section 8A Baseball tournament in Ada.

FIRST INNING
ABW’s Trent Sip singled with one out, but was later out at second base after the ball was hit to left field. The next batter was out on a ground out.
Sacred Heart broke the game open while taking advantage of ABW imploding in the bottom of the inning. After the first two Eagle batters were retired things fell apart for the Cougars. Parker Erickson singled, Ethan Arntson reached on an error allowing a run to score. A second run scored on a balk for a 2-0 lead. David Larson was hit by a pitch and he later scored on another error. Elliot Arntson reached on the third error of the inning and later scored on the fourth error of the inning for a 4-0 lead.

SECOND INNING
ABW responded with three runs in the top of the inning. With one out, Cannon Anderson singled, Ames Fassino walked, Cooper Kritzberger singled to score a run. Brennan Fetting had a bunt single and another run scored before Trenton Sip knocked in another run on a ground out to get within a 4-3 deficit.
Sacred Heart only sent three batters to the plate in the inning and took a 4-3 lead into the third inning.

THIRD INNING
ABW’s Lance Kritzberger singled with one out and Anderson walked. Kritzberger was caught stealing at third base and the next batter popped out to first base and the half inning was over.
Sacred Heart had a threat in the bottom of the inning as Parker Erickson walked and Ethan Arntson reached on an error. With runners at first and second base, Sacred Heart hit a line drive that was caught and they were double up at second base and the Eagles took a 4-3 lead into the fourth inning.

FOURTH INNING
ABW’s Casper Kritzberger walked to lead off the inning Brennan Fetting reached on a fielder’s choice. Kritzberger advanced to third base on an error and scored on another error to tie the game at 4-4. Sip singled to score another run and the Cougars took a 5-4 lead.
Sacred Heart was retired in 1-2-3 fashion in the. bottom of the inning.

FIFTH INNING
ABW had two hits in the inning, but Sacred Heart brought in Josiah Sundby to pitch and he got the third out on a pop up to the short stop to get out of the inning.
After an out, Josiah Sundby singled and advanced to second on a single but was stranded there as they next two batters were retired.

SIXTH INNING
Cameron Spaeth started the inning with a walk before the next three batters were retired.
Sacred Heart was retired in 1-2-3 fashion.

SEVENTH INNING
ABW’s Lance Kritzberger led off the inning with a walk, and after two outs, Casper Kritzberger singled, and a run scored on an error to give the Cougars a 6-4 lead.
Sacred Heart knows how to win, and they proved it again as they scored three runs in the bottom of the inning for a come-from-behind victory. It started with an Isaac Sundby base hit, Ben Wharam pinch hit, and walked. Josiah Sundby walked to load the bases with one out. Jake Satterlund singled to score a run. Parker Erickson singled to left field to score a run, and another run scored when the left fielder booted the ball allowing Josiah Sundby to score for a 7-6 come-from-behind victory.

Sacred Heart improves to 16-5 on the year and will play the winner of Fosston and Lake of the Woods on Saturday at 4:00 p.m. at Bemidji State. You can hear the game on KROX Radio. Ada-Borup-West drops to 12-6 on the year and will play the winner of Norman County East/Ulen-Hitterdal and Blackduck at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday at Bemidji State.
