The tillage tool you choose today can have a lasting impact on your soil, your crop, and your bottom line. Discover firsthand how various tillage practices perform in the field during a comprehensive field day on Tuesday, September 1, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Hosted by the University of Minnesota Extension, the University of Minnesota Climate Adaptation Partnership, and local Soil and Water Conservation Districts, this event highlights how less aggressive tillage improves water infiltration, minimizes soil and nutrient losses, and boosts cropping system resilience.
At the Northwest Research and Outreach Center in Crookston, participants will hear from farmers, researchers, and educators about what tillage means for soil structure, wind erosion and water infiltration, how to adjust aggressiveness of current tillage implements, manage fall nutrients, make planter adjustments for planting into more crop residue, and learn from a panel of experienced local farmers about how they are using these practices to improve their farm’s profitability and improve resilience.
A free lunch will be served, with local experts available for more questions and answers. This event is made possible through the support of the MN Corn Growers Association and MN Association of Wheat Growers.
Featured speakers include local agricultural producers along with Jodi DeJong-Hughes, Katie Black, and Bailey Tangen from University of Minnesota Extension; Brady Goettl of North Dakota State University Extension; Craig LaPlante representing the Minnesota Soil Health Coalition; Marla Riekman from Manitoba Ag; and area Soil and Water Conservation District representatives Morgan Torkelson and Gabe Okins.
