UMC MEN’S BASKETBALL FALLS TO #12 MSU MOORHEAD 76-49

The University of Minnesota Crookston Golden Eagle Men’s Basketball team fell to the #12 MSU Moorhead Dragons 76-49 at Alex Nemzek Fieldhouse in Moorhead.  

FIRST HALF-
MSUM would get off to a good start, opening up the game on a 9-2 run as UMC’s Aguek Deng (R-Jr. Des Moines, IA) hit the Golden Eagles first basket of the game. UMC’s Reid Grant (Jr. Johnston, IA) knocked down a three to cut the Dragons lead down to 9-5. MSUM would go on an 8-2 run to open up a 17-7 lead. Blaize Sagna (Jr. London, England) hit a three to cut the lead down to seven. Later in the half, Jordan Mitchell (R-Jr. Columbus, OH) hit his first basket of the half to make it 25-14 with MSUM still on top. Grant would hit two lay-ups and a three, but UMC still trailed by double digits as the MSUM lead grew to 34-21. Ben Hoverson (Jr. Grand Forks, ND) drained a three and Grant made two free throws at the end of the half to make it 41-26 with MSUM leading. 

SECOND HALF-
After 14 first-half points, Grant continued his scoring in the second half with a jumper, a three-pointer, and a lay-up, but MSUM still held a 15-point lead at 48-33. Later in the half, Mario Adams (Fr. Rosemont, MN) hit two free throws and also a lay-up to cut into MSUM’s lead at 58-39. Mitchell and Deng each hit baskets for the Golden Eagles, but MSUM kept their offense going as their lead was over 20 points. As the second half winded down, Myles Adams (Fresh. Rosemount, MN) hit a pair of free throws, and De’Antray Hughes (R-Sr. New Orleans, LA) hit a late hook shot before time expired. MSUM would pick up a 76-49 win at home. 

UMC drops to 6-15 on the year and 3-12 in NSIC play. The Golden Eagles will take on St. Cloud State on Thursday on KROX. #12 MSU Moorhead improves 18-3 on the year and 12-3 in NSIC play. MSU Moorhead will take on Bemidji State on Saturday.
