The Crookston Pirate Girls Tennis team lost to the Park Rapids Panthers 5-2 and bounced back to beat the Roseau Rams 4-3 in a pair of Section 8A matches at the KROX Radio Stadium courts in Crookston.
CROOKSTON vs PARK RAPIDS
As tradition over the years, Crookston has parents’ day when they host Park Rapids and Roseau towards the end of the regular season, and 2026 was no different. Crookston started the day by honoring their parents before falling to the Park Rapids Panthers 5-2.
With the Section tournament a little over a week away, they used a different lineup in the dual and got wins at first and second doubles. The first doubles team of Lauren Tull and Nora Groven had a great match against a very good team from Park Rapids. The Panthers won the first set 6-2, but the Pirate duo bounced back and won an exciting second set 7-5 to force a third set tie-breaker. Tull and Nora had a solid third set and won 10-5 to win the match.
The second doubles team of Ella Capistran and Kaylen Bedard turned in another solid effort as they won an outstanding back-and-forth battle in the first set with a 7-6 victory while winning the tie-breaker 7-3. The second set was another thriller, but Crookston came up with some big shots for points and won 6-3 to clinch the match.
Crookston had a couple of close and hard-fought losses, with Haddie Halland losing her fourth singles match 6-4, 6-4. The other tight match was at third doubles as Katie Seaver and Catelyn Maruska lost 6-4, 6-2.
