The Crookston Pirates Boys Tennis team has by far the most events under their belt of all Crookston High School spring sports teams, and they are getting three more matches in today on a beautiful sunny day as they are at the Northwest Quad in Bemidji. Crookston lost to Bemidji 7-0, beat East Grand Forks 4-3, and lost to Thief River Falls 6-1.
CROOKSTON VS BEMIDJI
Crookston knew the first match against Bemidji was going to be tough after they lost to the Lumberjacks 7-0 earlier in the year. Crookston lost by the same 7-0 score, but they had several close matches.
The first tight match was at third singles, with Isaac Thomforde losing his first set 6-2. Isaac bounced back to win the second set 6-3, and in the third, he lost a hard-fought 10-7 set. At fourth singles, Reggie Winjum lost a hard-fought two-setter. In the first set, he lost a close set 7-5. Reggie played well again in the second set, but he wasn’t to get the game winners like his opponent and lost 6-4.
The first doubles match was also a hard-fought match with Nathan Kelly and Mason Owens playing a great match, but Bemidji was a little stronger with a 6-4, 6-4 victory.

CROOKSTON VS EAST GRAND FORKS –
Crookston bounced back while showing off their team depth with a 4-3 victory over the East Grand Forks Green Wave in the second match of the day.
Crookston picked up three singles wins and one doubles win to edge the Green Wave. The first victory came at 2nd doubles as Jack Garmen cruised to a 6-3, 6-1 victory. In third singles, Isaac Thomforde coasted to a 6-1, 6-1 victory. Reggie Winjum shut out his opponent at fourth singles with a 6-0, 6-0 victory.
The lone doubles win was at third doubles with Sam Widseth and Time Brule winning 6-1, 6-4. The closest match was at second doubles with Kaleb Armstrong and Caleb Armstrong winning the first set 6-4, before losing the second set 6-2. In the third set, it went into extra points and EGF held on for a 12-10 victory.

CROOKSTON VS THIEF RIVER FALLS –
Crookston wrapped up the day with another top matchup as they took on the always tough Thief River Falls Prowlers. Thief River Falls won the first meeting of the year 5-2 and bested the effort today with a 6-1 victory.
Crookston’s lone win came from Isaac Thomforde, the team leader in wins this season, with an impressive 6-2, 6-0 victory.
There were two close matches that resulted in losses for the Pirates. The first was at fourth singles with Reggie Winjum losing the first set 6-3 before losing a hard-fought 7-5 loss in the second set. The third doubles match was another tight match with Sam Widseth and Tim Brule losing the first set 6-3 and then lost 6-4 in the second set. Thief River Falls won the rest of the matches fairly easily and cruised to the 6-1 win.
Crookston drops to 7-9 on the year and will travel to Perham for a triangular on Monday.
