CROOKSTON GIRLS SOCCER FALLS TO MELROSE AND ROCORI

The Crookston Pirate Girls Soccer team came up short in a 3-2 loss to the Melrose Dutchmen in Melrose, before falling to Roccori 3-2 on Saturday.

CROOKSTON VS MELROSE –

FIRST HALF –
The first was evenly played with both teams getting at least five shots on goal.  Melrose was the first team to find the back of the net as Eleanor Schweitzer’s goal 14 minutes into the game for a 1-0 lead.
Crookston didn’t waste any time answering as JoJo Wallace had a corner kick and after a few shots attempts, Cassie Solheim kicked the ball into the net from about six yards away to tie the game at 1-1.
There wasn’t any scoring for about 20 minutes until Melrose’s Schweiters scored two goals in a two-minute span and Melrose took a 3-1 lead going into halftime.

SECOND HALF –
Crookston, knowing they had work to do, came out strong and 10 minutes into the half Keono Arnold scored her second goal in as many games to bring the Pirates within a 3-2 deficit.
Crookston wasn’t able to score again and Melrose held on to a 3-2 victory.  “We were flat and didn’t consistently go to the ball. We weren’t playmaking. Glad to get goals on the board but certainly wanted a different ending,” said Coach Reese. “Jojo Wallace was a rockstar on defense today. Kailee Magsam played well in the center, and  Hattie and Adelia stepped up big time- playing defense today.”

Crookston drops to 2-4-2 on the year.

CROOKSTON VS ROCCORI –
The Crookston Pirate Girls Soccer team had about 90 minutes of rest before they played the second game of the trip as they came up short in another 3-2 loss, this time to Roccori.

FIRST HALF –

Crookston had a great start to the game as Cassie Solheim got the ball on the opening kick and scored in the first minute of the game for a q-0 lead.
That would be the only Pirate scoring in the half as Rocori answered later in the half.   It might have been the Pirates getting worn down as the half went along because Roccori scored three goals nine minutes apart, but the good news was Crookston scored a goal in that time frame too.
Rocori tied the game at 1-1 with 17 minutes left in the half.  Rocori added another goal three minutes later to take a 2-1 lead. Rocori was using a different type of offense and that caused some problems for the Pirates. “They were playing three forwards, traditionally we see two, who were fast and skillful. they were doing constant through balls to split our defense. we adjusted for this at half time and then they didn’t score again.
Crookston responded one minute later when Cassie Solheim found Maddie Harbott who scored a goal deep right to tie it up at 2-2.
Rocori regained the lead five minutes later to take a 3-2 lead, a lead they took into halftime. “2nd game against Rocori was a much better game for us – surprising for just playing one hour later – tired and bruised up from the previous game,’ said Pirate head coach Sarah Reese.

SECOND HALF –
The second half was even with both teams recording five shots on goal apiece but neither team could get one in the net.  Even though shots were even, Crookston controlled play for most of the second half. We dominated the second half and peppered them with shot attempts but we just couldn’t find the net,” said Coach Reese.  “We won the ball in the air, kept possession, and had much better passing in this game. We had more dynamic playmaking by Maddie Harbott, Kailee Magsam, Mady K., Cassie Solheim and Keona Arnold.”
Neither team scored in the second half and Rocori won the game 3-2.

Crookston drops to 2-5-2 on the year.
