CROOKSTON HIGH SCHOOL 7TH GRADE ORIENTATION IS AUGUST 27

Crookston High School’s seventh-grade orientation will be held on Tuesday, August 27, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m.  “That is a change from the announcement received at the end of last year.  Students, parents, guardians don’t have to register beforehand, just come around 3:45 p.m. to check-in.  From 4:00 to 4:15 p.m., there is a student and parent welcome.  Then from about 4:15 to 4:45 p.m. there is a parent only meeting where we go over a lot of frequently asked questions.  Mr. (Eric) Bubna and a couple of the teachers will be leading that.  We’ll go over some of the new things we are doing for the seventh-graders this year.”

The student orientation will run until 7:00 p.m., with students setting up their accounts, getting into their lockers and more.  “From 4:15 to 7:00 p.m. the seventh graders will be split into five different groups to rotate through five different activities,” said Zimmerman.  “They’ll get their schedule, check out the locker and make sure they get the combination to work.  They will be able to try logging into computers, checking email, checking into Skyward for grades, and setting up their google drive for the year as well.  There will also be one team-building activity, and then parents/guardians can pick up your students at 7:00 p.m.”

Zimmerman said attending orientation can help to ease the nerves about making the jump to high school.  “It’s quite a big jump,” said Zimmerman.  “It’s just a different feel.  We have upper grades here, so they go from being the oldest in the building to being the youngest grade in a building.  We did move our social classrooms this year, so social, math, and English are right in the same pod area, so they don’t have too far.  Science and Art are near each other, so they are in a central area.  Seventh-grade orientation is a great opportunity to get all those questions in. I’ll be handing out a packet with an example of the schedule, bell schedule, academic calendar, things about all the activities they can participate in, about lunch, different guidelines or rules at school, cell phone policy, and backpacks.  If you can come, I highly suggest it. It helps ease the nerves for the first couple days of school.”
