Crookston Legion Baseball beats Win-E-Mac

The Crookston American Legion Post 20 Baseball team played a solid all-around game to beat Win-E-Mac 6-4 in a game played in Erskine.

FIRST INNING-
Crookston got things going right away when Parker Kelly was hit by a pitch, Matt Contreras walked and Teagen Lubinski singled to load the bases. Gavyn Hlucny hit into a double play and a run scored on the play for a 1-0 lead. Greyson Ecker singled to score another run and Crookston led 2-0.
Win-E-Mac responded in the bottom of the inning when N. Schow walked and Owen Strom doubled. A run scored when Braylon Hamre reached on an error. K. Schow hit into a double play but a run scored and the game was tied at 2-2.

SECOND INNING-
Crookston’s Carter Fee was hit by a pitch with one out. Fee was caught stealing before the next batter popped out to retire Crookston.
Crookston’s Parker Kelly struck out all three Win-E-Mac batters for a quick 1-2-3 inning.

THIRD INNING –
Crookston’s Matt Contreras doubled with one out. The next batter lined out for the second out of the inning. Hlucny ripped a line drive to left-center field for a double to score a run for a 3-2 lead. Ecker joined the double parade as he laced a line drive to the right-center field gap to score a run and Crookston took a 4-2 lead.
Lucas Perala walked before the next batter struck out.
Win-E-Mac responded with three bloop singles to start the bottom of the inning. Smeby, N. Schow, and Strom all singled to score a run. With runners at first and second, The next batter hit into a fielder’s choice and Crookston got the out at second base.
K. Schow singled up the middle to score another run and the game was tied at 4-4 with one out and runners at first and second base. The next batter hit a ground ball to the pitcher and Crookston got the out at second base, but the relay to first base was off the mark. The next batter was hit by a pitch and bases were loaded with two outs and Crookston’s Kelly struck out the next batter and the game was tied 4-4.

FOURTH INNING-
Crookston answered in the top of the inning when Melsa doubled and after a ground out for the second out of the inning, Contreras singled to score a run to take a 5-4 lead.
Win-E-Mac’s first two batters were retired before N. Schow singled and stole second base. The next batter grounded out and the inning was over.

FIFTH INNING-
Crookston’s Hlucny and Ecker walked before Perala grounded out and Hlucny scored on an error to give Crookston a 6-4 lead. After a Tarek Siegle walk, the next two batters were retired.
In the bottom of the inning it was the Matt Contreras show as he made a diving catch at shortstop for the first out of the inning. The next batter hit a hard ground ball to Contreras and he got the out at first. After a walk, Contreras fielded another ground ball and ran to second to get the third out of the inning.

SIXTH INNING-
Crookston’s Contreras walked with one out, stole second base, and moved to third on a throwing error. The next two batters struck out and the threat was over.
The first two Win-E-Mac batters were retired with a flyout and strikeout. After a walk, the next batter struck out and the inning was over.

SEVENTH INNING-
The first Crookston batter grounded out and the next two batters struck out for a 1-2-3 inning. Crookston went into the bottom of the seventh inning with a 6-4 lead.

Win-E-Mac’s first batter lined out to third base for the first out of the inning. The next batter grounded out to third base with Melsa fielding the ball and firing a rocket to the first baseman to get the out. After a single, the next batter struck out and Crookston won the game 6-4.

Crookston improves to 5-5 on the year and will off until Monday.
