OSLS TO PERFORM MUSICAL “I WITNESS NEWS: LIVE FROM JERICHO” NEXT WEEK

Our Saviors Lutheran Church School presents their spring musical “I Witness News: Live From Jericho” at the church on Wednesday, May 11 at 1:30 and 7:00 p.m.

The musical will tell the story of a present-day News Crew team that uses Time Delay Satellite Technology to travel back in time to capture a News story of Joshua in the battle of Jericho and the miracles that happen. The musical is full of laughs, lively songs, and important lessons from the Bible.

While Our Saviors Lutheran School was able to perform small musicals during the COVID-19 pandemic, they could only live-stream them over YouTube to people that wished to see them. Now with restrictions lifted, the School is ready to open its doors again to allow family, friends, and anyone else interested in the musical to come and see their musical about Bible stories.

The students expressed their excitement to perform another play yet also felt a bit nervous about performing again in front of a live audience instead of being live-streamed to others. “It’s probably one of my favorites because we get to actually say parts this time, which we haven’t done in previous shows like maybe we would have a short role in maybe one of the other plays, but now it’s a big one,” 6th-grader Caden Perry, who plays a Jericho Soldier explained. 6th-grader Ivan Luckow, who plays Joe the Cameraman, expressed his excitement in one of his favorite scenes in the musical, believing it to be one of the funnier scenes that audiences will enjoy. “My favorite scene is when the soldiers think that the News Crew is a group of spies, and Cecilia (Lilli Bridgeford’s character) gets mad because she might break a nail and stuff,” Ivan explained. “Then she has to have a Day Spa, get a face mask, a mud bathe, and so on because she’s so particular,” Caden Perry added. “My favorite scene is when the soldiers take us offstage because my brother is one of them, and he really wants to take me and the others offstage,” 6th-grader Alissa Johnson explained. The students also expressed their excitement to perform some of the songs in the musical with them, bringing special attention to ones like “We Need a Story” and “Be Strong.” “I like “We Need a Story because the entire News Crew gets to sing in it and speak-sing,” 6th-grader Lilli Bridgeford, who plays Cecelia the Reporter, explained.

With this being the final performance for the 6th-grade students at OSLS, many of them are unsure if they plan to continue being in theatre when they go to Crookston or Fisher High School, but most of them plan to participate in many other school events such as choir, orchestra, trap shooting, speech, and sports. The Church School is closing out its Year soon with a few more events, such as a Garage Sale run by the Church’s Youth Group on Thursday and Friday, May 5 and 6, a multi-day trip for the 6th-graders to Lutheran Island Camp in Henning, their graduation ceremony on Wednesday, May 25, and a Class Picnic to celebrate their last day of school on Thursday, May 26.

Our Savior’s Lutheran School will perform the musical on Wednesday, May 11, at 1:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. The musical will also be live-streamed on their YouTube channel, Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Crookston, MN, for those unable to come to it live.
