TRF SWEEPS CROOKSTON BASEBALL IN DOUBLEHEADER

The Crookston Pirate Baseball team committed four errors, and Thief River Falls won the first game 11-1 and held on to win the second game 5-3 in a Section 8AA doubleheader played in Thief River Falls.

FIRST INNING
Crookston’s Lucas Miller led off the game with a single. After an out, Greyson Ecker singled, but the Prowlers turned a double play in the next at-bat, and Crookston was retired.
TRF’s Caleb Rosendahl led off the bottom of the inning with a single. Jace Erickson reached on a Crookston error. The next batter struck out before Noah Gonzalez doubled to score a run, and the Prowlers led 1-0. Mossestad reached on an error, and two more runs scored.  After a flyout, Hurst singled to score a run for a 4-0 lead. Kennet Kezar reached on another Crookston error before Gannon Zutz singled to score a run for a 5-0 lead. The next batter grounded out, and the inning was over with Thief River Falls taking a 5-0 lead after three Crookston errors.

SECOND INNING
Parker Kelly started the second inning with a single. The next batter struck out before Nolan Cassavant reached on a fielder’s choice while Kelly was retired at second base. Carter Fee walked before the next batter struck out, and Crookston’s threat was over.
Thief River Falls’ first two batters grounded out before Gonzalez singled. The next batter struck out and the Prowlers took a 5-0 lead into the third inning.

THIRD INNING
Crookston’s Matt Contreras and Ecker singled to start the inning. The next batter grounded into a double play before a strikeout to retire the Pirates.
TRF’s Hams led off the bottom of the inning with a double, and Hurst singled to score a run for a 6-0 lead. The next three batters were retired.

FOURTH INNING
Crookston’s leadoff batter flew out before Isaiah Donarski walked, and Casavant singled. The next batter struck out before a fielder’s choice retired the Pirates.
TRF’s leadoff batter flew out before a single. Gonzalez singled, but an out was recorded on the play. Manderud singled, but an error allowed a run to score, and the Prowlers led 7-0.

FIFTH INNING
Crookston’s Contreras singled before the next two batters flew out. Gavyn Hlucny singled to score a run to get within a 7-1 deficit.
The first two Thief River Falls batters walked before Jensen singled to score a run. Kezar scored to give the Prowlers a 9-1 lead. Erickson singled to score two runs, and Thief River Falls won the game 11-1 in five innings.

GAME TWO

FIRST INNING
Crookston was retired in 1-2-3 fashion with a strikeout and two groundouts.
TRF’s Erickson reached on a one-out walk. After a strikeout, Gonzalez doubled to score a run for a 1-0 lead. Manderud singled to score another run. TRF scored another run when Manderud scored on a wild pitch for a 3-0 lead after one inning.

SECOND INNING
Crookston was retired in 1-2-3 fashion with a ground out, strikeout, and fly out.
TRF’s first two batters grounded out and flew out. Wikert singled to keep the inning going. Rosendahl reached on an error to score a run, and Erickson doubled to score another run for a 5-0 lead. 

THIRD INNING
Crookston was retired in 1-2-3 fashion with three strikeouts. Thief River Falls was retired in 1-2-3 fashion with two strikeouts and a ground out.

FOURTH INNING
Crookston’s first batter grounded out before Contreras and Ecker reached on errors. The next batter flew out before Melsa was hit by a pitch and a run scored later to bring the Pirates within a 5-1 deficit.
Thief River Falls was retired in 1-2-3 fashion.

FIFTH INNING
Crookston’s first two batters were retired before Elbinger reached on an error. The next batter flew out.
The first two TRF batters flew out and grounded out before Gonzalez walked. The next Prowler batter stuck out, and the inning was over.

SIXTH INNING
Crookston was retired in 1-2-3 fashion with a 
round out and two strikeouts.
TRF’s Hams was hit by a pitch before the next three batters were retired and the Prowlers took a 5-0 lead into the seventh inning.

SEVENTH INNING
Crookston started the seventh inning with singles from Melsa, Kelly, and Carter Fee to load the bases. The next two batters struck out. Lucas Miller singled to score three runs, and the Pirates were within a 5-3 deficit. The next batter flew out, and the game was over, with Thief River Falls winning 5-3.

UMC drops to 3-5 on the year and will host Hillsboro/Central Valley on Friday.
