CROOKSTON AMERICAN LEGION BASEBALL SWEPT BY FOSSTON

The Crookston American Legion Post 20 Baseball team struggled as the Fosston American Legion Post 114 swept a doubleheader 10-0 and 12-2 at Thompson Field in Fosston. 

FIRST INNING
The first two Crookston batters struck out before Gavyn Hlucny reached on an error. The next batter struck out on a foul tip for the third out of the inning.
Crookston’s Blake Melsa came out throwing strikes and retired the first batter with a strikeout. Aaron Norland, a super-senior, followed with a first-pitch single, but the next two batters were retired, and the game was scoreless after the first inning.

SECOND INNING
The first Crookston batter struck out before Teagen Lubinski walked. The next batter struck out before Carter Fee walked, and Crookston had runners at first and second base. The next batter popped out to the short stop for the third out of the inning.
Fosston’s Tanner Vig led off the inning with a bloop single to left field before Brekken Levene singled. Zach Theis hit a ground ball to the third baseman, and he threw it away to allow Theis to reach, and a run scored. The next pitch was a wild pitch, and another run scored. Mitchel Mulry grounded out, and another run scored for a 3-0 Fosston lead.

THIRD INNING
The first two Crookston batters struck out before Hlucny singled for Crookston’s first hit of the game. The next batter grounded out.
Fosston’s Ryne Duppong walked with one out before Hudson Boushee hit a line drive to left field for a single. With runners at first and third base, a run scored on a balk for a 4-0 lead. 

FOURTH INNING
Crookston was retired in 1-2-3 fashion for the first time in the game.
Mulry led off with a bloop single off the end of the bat before Aiden Wolfe hit a blast to right-center field, and the Crookston outfielder had the ball go off his glove, and runners were at second and third base with nobody out. Crookston made a pitching change and brought in Tanner Giese. Cullen Norland singled to score a run. The next batter struck out before a ground out that scored another run for a 6-0 lead. 

FIFTH INNING
Crookston’s Carter Fee led off the inning with a walk, and Nolan Cassavant followed with a single to left field. After a strikeout, Matt Contreras walked to load the bases. The next two batters struck out, and the Crookston threat was over.
The first Fosston batter lined out to center field before Brekken Levin doubled, and Theis reached on error. Crookston made a pitching change and brought in Contreras. He retired the two batters he faced to get out of the inning.

SIXTH INNING
Crookston’s Melsa led off the inning with a bloop single over the first baseman’s head. The next three batters were retired.
Fosston’s Jakob Rudie, Aaron Norland, and Duppong walked to lead off the inning. Crookston made a pitching change and brought in Hlucny. The next batter walked to score a run. After a strikeout, Lavin knocked in a run on a sacrifice fly for an 8-0 lead. Theis ripped a line drive to the right-center field gap to score two runs, and Fosston won 10-0 in six innings.

GAME TWO – 

FIRST INNING
Crookston’s Melsa reached on a walk with one out before the next two batters lined out and flew out to retire Post 20.
Fosston’s Jakob Rudie singled with one out and advanced to second base on an error on the right fielder. Will Christen walked, and Rudie advanced to third base on a wild pitch. The next batter reached on catcher’s interference, and the bases were loaded. Trevor Vig hit a ground ball back to the pitcher Carter Fee and he threw home to get the out. The next batter popped out to first base, and the inning was over.

SECOND INNING
Crookston’s Lucas Miller led off the inning with a walk. Miller stole second base before advancing to third base on a Nolan Cassavant ground out. The next batter lined out to second base. The next batter ground out to the shortstop, and the Crookston threat was over.
The Fosston leadoff batter, Aiden Wolfe, walked before Duppong reached on an error, and runners were at second and third base with nobody out. Lavin singled to left field to score a run for a 1-0 lead. Lavin stole second, and the throw went into center field, allowing two runs to score for a 3-0 Fosston lead. Dawson Bailie walked and stole second base and scored on a ground out for a 4-0 lead. Christen walked and moved to second and third base on a passed ball. The next batter popped out before Vig reached on an error that allowed another run to score. Mulry singled to right field, and Fosston had runners at the corners with two outs. Wolfe was hit by a pitch in his second at-bat of the inning to load the bases. Another run scored on a wild pitch, and Fosston led 6-0 after two innings.

THIRD INNING
Wyat Marsyla started the inning with a walk before Contreras reached on a fielder’s choice that retired Marsyla at second base. The next batter grounded out before Hlucny walked. Contreras scored on a wild pitch, and Giese singled to left field to score a run for a 2-0 lead. Lubinski was hit by a pitch, and the Crookston runners advanced on a wild pitch. The next batter struck out, and Crookston trailed 6-2.
Fosston answered in the bottom of the inning, with Lavin and Bailie reaching on back-to-back singles. The next batter popped out before a run scored on a wild pitch, and Christen knocked in a run on an infield single for an 8-2 lead. Brodie Sather reached on an error before the next batter popped out to first base for the second out of the inning. Mulry followed with a single to left field to load the bases. Wolfe singled to score a run for a 9-2 lead. Duppong walked to score another run, and Crookston made a pitching change. Two more runs scored on wild pitches, and the game was called due to the 10-run rule and Fosston won the game 12-2.

Crookston drops to 7-7 on the year and is scheduled to host Win-E-Mac on Friday for a doubleheader. Fosston improves to 3-1 on the year.
