WASHINGTON SCHOOL HONORS VETERANS AND EVERYDAY HEROES

On Thursday, November 9th, the Washington School Respect Counts program honored active Military Personnel, Veterans, and Everyday Heroes. Each year, Principal Denice Oliver writes a special program in November to help the preschool and kindergarten students learn about citizenship and honor. It is the second of four assemblies throughout the school year. A display of citizenship and honor was immediately observed as the students stood respectfully during the presentation of the flag and the singing of the National Anthem.

CHS LEO Club members and a group of kindergarten students added speaking parts to help students learn about our country and ways to be a good citizen, such as “Play fair and take turns,” “Help others,”

“Listen to your parents, teachers, and bus drivers,” and “Use your manners.” I Care Cat and Whiskers the Mouse, Washington School mascots, played a role, as well.

The Military members, Veterans, and the Everyday Heroes introduced themselves to the students, named their special student in the audience, and also shared examples of good citizenship.

Music was a part of the program with the help of the Crookston High School Choir, under the direction of Mrs. Adrianne Winger, as they sang a tribute to our Veterans and Heroes, followed by the preschool and kindergarten students singing, “Oh, I Love America.”

Mrs. Oliver concluded the program by reminding students to honor those who have served and protected us by being kind to others, making good choices, and always remembering that RESPECT COUNTS!
